Creighton vs. St. John’s CBB Prediction:

This is a tough spot for Creighton. In the span of 9 days, the Bluejays will play 3 of the 4 best teams in the Big East. Creighton defeated Marquette 77-67 at home on February 8th, lost 70-66 at home to UConn on February 11th, and will now have to face 1st place St. John’s in Madison Square Garden on February 16th. I could see this game potentially getting out of hand as the Bluejays reach the end of a Big East gauntlet.

St. John’s has lost 2 games outright since November 30th. The Johnnies are 16-2 straight up in that span with wins over Kansas State, Xavier (twice), Marquette, Villanova, and UConn in that stretch. St. John’s only two losses over that stretch were to Villanova on Wednesday night and at Creighton on New Year’s Eve. I could see the Red Storm getting revenge against the Bluejays in a big way on Sunday. For that reason, I’m laying the points with St. John’s at home in this one. 

Iowa lost their best player to injury at the end of January and they are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games. Those are the two main reasons this line is as high as it is. I actually think it’s too high. In the 3 games since Hawkeyes forward Owen Freeman went down with a season-ending finger injury, Iowa lost by 9 to Purdue at home, lost by 11 to Wisconsin at home, and defeated Rutgers on the road by 11. The latter game of that set was the first game of an east coast road trip that will end in College Park on Sunday night. I think the Rutgers game was a promising sign for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa beat Rutgers 84-73 in Piscataway on Wednesday night. The Hawkeyes got 26 points from guard Josh Dix, 20 from forward Payton Sandfort, and 13 from guard Brock Harding. Iowa won by double-digits while only shooting 7 of 25 from three-point range on Wednesday. They held Rutgers to 48.3% shooting from the floor in an 11-point victory. I think Iowa will shoot better from three-point range on Sunday while continuing to play above-average defense. For that reason, I’m taking the Hawkeyes to cover the big number on the road this weekend.

Give me the over. The over has cashed in the last three meetings between these conference rivals. That trend has nothing on the over/under record for Northwestern. In the Wildcats’ last 10 games, the over is a perfect 10-0. The over also cashed in seven out of the Cornhuskers’ last 10 games overall.

Rutgers vs. Oregon CBB Prediction:

Take Rutgers. Oregon has struggled to cover of late, dropping eight out of its last 10 games at the window. While the Ducks did beat Northwestern 81-75 in their last game, Oregon failed to cover as a 10-point home favorite. That win also snapped a five-game losing skid for the Ducks. While the Scarlet Knights aren’t exactly in great form themselves (4-6 straight up over their last 10 games), at least they’ve covered in six out of their last 10 contests. This more about Oregon being overvalued at the window.
