CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami center Reggie Johnson did not accompany the Hurricanes to Washington on Tuesday evening in preparation for the team's Sweet 16 game, the school said in a statement.
A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that Johnson had a surgical procedure to repair a minor meniscus issue Tuesday and will not play in this weekend's East Regional games.
A spokesman said Johnson is expected to be able to play in the Final Four if Miami advances.
Miami (29-6) plays Marquette (25-8) on Thursday in the East Regional semifinals. The winner of that game will meet either Indiana or Syracuse for a trip to Atlanta and the Final Four.
In a statement, the university said Johnson was injured in last weekend's third-round game against Illinois. It was not immediately clear when Johnson was hurt in that game, and he was in the contest with 15 seconds remaining.
He played 18 minutes in all against the Illini, and Miami won the game 63-59.
Johnson has appeared in 26 games for Miami this season, starting nine. The 6-foot-10, 292-pound senior is averaging 6.7 points and 4.8 rebounds for Miami, and his presence could have been a major help against Marquette, which has outrebounded its opponents by 4.5 per game this season.
Marquette also has 31 offensive rebounds in this year's NCAA tournament, third-best in the field behind Michigan State (34) and Gonzaga (32).
Johnson has not been a regular starter for Miami since mid-December. He started three Atlantic Coast Conference games in early March, before returning to his reserve role at the start of the ACC tournament.

Marquette was lucky to beat davidson and butler. This team has been the luckiest team all year
Your a moron. Realize who teams are and what they do. Marquette has been eeking out victories all year and they have been doing it for years. I believe davidson was up 59-51 with like 2 mins left. I bet my buddy 20$ to win 55$ that Marquette would come back and win. I was never nervous and I am about the only one not impressed/suprised by the comeback in that game bc I have seen it over and over and over again by Marquette

That actually is a plus for Miami. Id move the line one point in their favor.
He is very good but I know what you mean he doesn't really fit in well on this team BUT I think they really need him this game bc he is a nightmare matchup for Marquette... What big body can Marquette throw at him..... Gardner? Im glad hes out!!!!

I agree......the guy eats at McDonald's too much, has no footwork, no stamina, can't shoot free throws, a low Hoops I.Q. and is often two steps behind the motion offense of the Hurricanes. This benefits the Canes as the replacement (can't remember his name) is as good if not better. Go Canes !!!
he has the highest free throw avg on the team.but I agree Go Canes!!! easy winner over marquette either way.

Not a big loss. I would have won have won my 1H half bet Sunday if this idiot didn't dribble the ball off his leg. No Johnson means more Larkin which is fine by me

Its simple math. If johnson played it would have been donut boy1 (johnson) vs donut boy2 (gardner). Every one knows that if you have two donut boys they cancel each other out. Know that there is only 1 donut boy he can dominate.
