Last night went out to dinner with my 10 racquetball buddies and their wives I didn't want to look at my texts because Stu a former VietNam vet Providence College, North Texas St D-1 player was in hospice and refused to eat and was shutting down / He passed away yesterday afternoon. I think back about our college days. He was close to Dave Cowen and Rudy Tom of the Celtics and Rockets. He was from Seekconk, RI. and played one year at Providence. Then was drafted into the Army his sophomore year Prov.. After coming back North Texas offered a full scholarship , He played at North Texas for 2 years then coached at Eastern new Mexico and Southeast OK st in Durant Ok . He told Dave Cowens about me and I worked Cowens summer camp for 3 years I was offered to work Basketball camp at West Point but liked working at Regis College in Mass. After he graduated North Texas he moved to Austin Texas. When my daughter decided to attend U Texas in Austin stu and his wife picked her up at the airport and took her in for a few days before the dorms opened . He got Judy Congradt the Texas womans coach and interview and went with her. Judy knew Stu and told them that although Sarah is 6'2 she is a post player. Texas has gds thta are 6'2. But Judy said that Her friend was the coach of Rice and she could play for them. Anyway Stu was an integral part of my daughters recruitment of Rice. Stu's brother was an Off line men at Tulsa . My daughter decided to attend Texas knowing she had offers to play at Rice St Bonnie, Army Marist and a few more . But she had something her father never had " Brains" She graduated UT and after 16 years is teaching here in Austin now. I have been thinking about Stu the past few days and imagine him shooting his turn around jumper . He has more "ups " because he has 2 wings keeping him more air borne Rest in peace Stu hopefully we will all meet again in those clouds . You taught me so much down here about coaching and techniques . St Peter I'm sure has you coaching some angels up there Thank you so much . At your wedding in New Hampshire I did eat about 3 or 4 lobster tails even though there was a sign saying " please take one only" . I'm reading all those messages and texts about you You had a big time influence on my life and will always look up in those clouds and think of you Rest in peace

thanks guys I have been so down about him In a way I'm glad sheila his wife had him in seclusion up there in Mass. Stu didn't want to have any visitors and and everyone to remember him the way we knew him There are so many good memories. Another one was we both had Chinese History class He was a history major and I had history as a minor. My girlfriend who later became my wife had tickets to see Elton John in Dallas. We had a mid -term History test. I told my girlfriend I couldn't go to the concert Had to study . She was upset and took her roommate. She came over to my apartment and Stu and I were in the kitchen studying. Then Stu ate about 3-4 muffins that were laced with marijuana. He never smoked it and I didn't know my roommate had cooked them with marijuana in it We had no brownie mix so he made Muffins. We were so f,,ked up and about 4 hours later my girlfriend now my wife came over Stu and I were in the same kitchen same chairs she had seen us before she left. We were stoned . My girlfriend was mad realizing we didn't accomplish studying and I missed a great concert. My girl friend saw us and realized we were wasted and went back to her dorm. Stu looked at me and said " you are in f..k en trouble with her and can you spell Madame Hu'ze. a Chinese Emperor We both laughed and laughed. And when ever I don't want to go with my wife someplace I will say " I;m studying for a chinese history test, can't go. Don't remember how we did on the test but Stu knew the professor being a big time basketball fan and got an A in the class I got a A also.... so maybe it was those muffins

Wow, sounds like Stu was an incredible guy with a real impact on your life and your daughter's journey. It's touching to hear how he connected you to basketball and influenced so many. Those memories must mean the world to you.

Stu's wife just sent out a memorial service card and is doing a " service". in Rhode Island next month. I can't make it since I'm already going to the Jersey shore 6 weeks later. I know you have been in seclusion this past year and in a way thats good I want to remember you the way we knew you. I do understand why Sheila and you wanted privacy at the end. I want to remember you that way. Will always be so grateful taking care of Sarah when she arrived in Austin and teaching me how to coach . You taught me a few drills that I used everyday when I coached. At Cowens camp they had so many pro coaches and guest speakers but you by far was the best. I know if there is an afterlife and their really is a St Peter up there you are teaching him a few basketball drills and telling him we new England people do not pronounce the R's I'll pak my Caaar" RIP Stu
