A couple of weeks ago, Dave Portnoy bet $600k on UCONN to win the whole thing at +360. He stands to make $2.1 million if they win. If you were holding this ticket, would you hedge?
I think I would. I'd put $300k on Purdue ML at +245 and guarantee myself a decent profit either way.
God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.

Why would he not take Purdue +6.5 for $1.1M to win $1M to maximize a guaranteed return, with a chance on middling the game (UConn win and a Purdue cover)?
UCONN win and cover = $460K profit
Purdue win and cover = $400K profit
UCONN win and Purdue cover = $2.56M profit.
The fact that he’s holding UCONN ML at +360 for one game, should be fully taken advantage of with Purdue +6.5 or higher to guarantee a profit.

Because if UConn blows them out he just cost himself like 2 mil. This is dumb thinking. Vegas wants you to hedge, we’ve had this convo a million times, you have them by the balls let it ride and in the long run you make more. Don’t look at it in a vaccuum

And if UConn loses? I’m not looking at it in a vacuum; you however, are. He’s already won by his future bet being worth +360 in a one game event, now the only question is, will he capitalize on it and attempt to maximize his winning ticket.
BOL to you.

You're not wrong,,,Portnoy wins even when he loses,,,he's essentially the book itself,,,nice gig for a degen ...I'd enjoy hearing him do more play by play on random bad matchups come late season Thursday Night Football,,,he's must watch/listen to when he's drunk and high in the booth

Absolutely hedge. The juice is in winning something. Anything. These are 21 year old collegiate athletes. S#*t can happen. You bet the tournament looking to win. Now…you’re guaranteed to win. Something.
