St. Joe's +8: Think the much-improved Hawks can hang with the Hall here. Hawks were consistent all season, lost 3 in a row just once, and their losses were mostly all close. They're plenty capable of playing with the big boys as evidenced by their 96-88 OT loss at Kentucky and solid wins over Villanova and Princeton and at UMass. They do like to play fast but showed they can survive by winning low-scoring grinding affairs against Mason and Richmond in the conference tournament. Worth a shot for 1 unit.

Loyola-Chicago +5: Ramblers lost just 2 of their last 12, unfortunately for them the last one an OT heartbreaker to St. Bonny in the first round of the conf. tourney. Think they relish the opportunity to put the bitter taste behind them and continue their season. That strong frontcourt led by Phil Alston shows the way tonight against a Bradley team that has really beaten nobody since edging out UAB and Utah State both in OT in the first 2 games of the season. Braves went a combined 0-5 against MVC big boys Drake and Indy State. Tempted to play the ML too but definitely going 1 unit on the Ramblers +5. That's all for today ... just getting the feet wet before the main event starts on Thursday.
