2-2 yesterday.
Villanova +3.5
No one has been more down on the Wildcats over the last 2 years than I, but this line reeks. Opened at 5 now down to 3.5. The public is hammering the Bearcats and the number keeps going down. This will be the best team Cincy has played yet this year as well. Give me Nova at home in a game that could turn the viewpoint of their whole season around right before getting into conference games.
Miami (FL) +4
See above as far as smell goes. But Miami just lost at home to Charleston Southern as like a 30 point favorite. If there was ever a time to buy into the Canes, its coming off that embarrassment. Coach Cal ran it up on Miami last year when he was still at Kentucky, I don't think Jimmy Larranaga or any of his kids forgot about that. It should be a very spirited effort tonight from Miami. Lean into the stink!!!
Akron -6.5
Akron is just going to chuck three after three, and as a whole, they shoot it very well. Being at home, I'd expect quite a few of them to go down. The Norse don't run anyone off the 3pt line either, so it should be exactly what the Zips want, and this becomes a route. NKU has 1 DI win and it was their last time out vs. Bellarmine (320th Kenpom rank), and although they have played a handful of good teams, they lost to Charleston by 15 and I'd put Charleston and Akron is a similar boat as far as what they want to do offensively.
California +10.5
Outside of Memphis in their opener, Mizzou hasn't played anyone better than Eastern Washington (237th), so how tested could they really be? Caleb Grill just left the game the other night on a stretcher and went to the hospital with a strange neck injury. He is ok, but he won't be playing, and he was shooting the hell out of the ball for the Tigers too. Mark Madsen has the Bears on the up and up. Stojakovic can really shoot it, just his daddy, and Sissoko is still a really big body to deal with in the paint. Also, Mizzou plays their boarder war game vs KU next, in Como, and that's a big one for those guys.
Iowa -5
Iowa didn't play in a Thanksgiving MTE, so they've had a week off. Kicking off Big Ten play at home vs a Wildcat team that is coming off a MTE in Salt Lake in which they split two close games. I think it will be tough for NW to come into this game and not be flat, and Hawkeye Arena gets crazy at times. One thing we know, Fran McCaffreys offense is going to score at a high clip (put up 110 their last time out), and I don't think NW can hang. The last three meeting at Hawkeye have been Iowa victories, by 16,36, and 21. Iowa by double digits again tonight.
UNC-Wilmington +6.5
I think UNC-W is actually the better of the two teams here. They have already played at The Phog this year, so no concern with playing on a foreign court. They are the deeper team, substantially, and they get to the line quite a bit. If the Pirates get into any sort of foul trouble, its gonna cost them.
Thats it for 6pm cst tips. I'll have the rest in a bit.
