Hey all, new to the boards here and have been following for awhile. Awesome forum. I’m also fairly new to getting as well, and I was wondering what the term unit meant? Is a standard unit 10$? 100$? Because I see everyone varying from 0-50 units per play and was wondering what a single unit was. Thanks so much in advance!

A unit is based on what you want to play per bet. Usually 1% of your bankroll, but it could be based on how many bets you want to play per week. Example: you have a $500 weekly allowance for betting. You want to play 100 bets per week, so 1 unit would be $5 (500/100). If someone says they are betting 25 units, for your situation that would mean betting $250

Maate - you raise a good question... In the traditional sense - for a sports bettor, a unit is 1% of your bankroll. thus if your roll is 100k - a unit is 1%... now bankrolls fluctuate so even for traditional bettors, if they are not doing a daily adjustment, the 1% is more an approximation that a fact...
On covers - a unit is used differently by different people and certainly a 100 unit bet may not mean their entire bankroll etc.. All you can really do is ask them what they are implying... or perhaps, get to know some of these guys betting techniques so you can directionally sense when they say a unit size, their level of conviction....

Years ago..like more than 15 I layed off other peoples money offshore...I bet so much that they (not mentioning names) flew me down there for a week. They wined me and dined me, gave me a tour of the facility..etc...etc..
They told me the average bet was like $9 and the average balance was like $100...And this was a big famous book- Most people here are betting peanuts. I watched the bets come in for hours...it was like $5, $18, $3, $8...all day long
Now there's nothing wrong with betting $5, but when I see that everybody here says they are betting hundreds and thousands..I gotta call bullshit- until I see the ticket

it’s a site of Anonomous people brother. Who cares what they are betting and if they lie to make themselves feel good, lol at them but whatever floats your boats.... one caveat, if you a capper and you want to make sure they have real skin in the game, I guess it matter then... but, and as you well know, tail very few and do your own research/formulate your own opinions
on a separate note, cannot believe I find myself saying this, but I’m loving this ‘reformed’ version of you. Let’s be friends

You also gotta realize, credit cards have max deposit/transaction limits. So I can totally see people depositing $50, $100, $250 at a time. The "average Joe" is probably betting anywhere from $5-$20 a game with offshore books (Bovada,5dimes,etc) to make their roll last.
Now with a LOCAL book, that's a different story. That's where bettors are betting $100+ a game due to credit lines and settling their debt/winnings every week.
Also, sports gambling has become legal in many states which results in their local casino offering sports betting so a unit for them is literally their pay check(totally random). They don't have a bankroll, just their bi-weekly paycheck that they bet a third/half of it on whatever sporting events.
I've went through all three so I can attest for all experiences from betting $5 on a game to betting $1k+ a game...
But what Blackcannons said about the idiots on here posting outrageous unit amounts is true. When somebody is saying a "100 unit banger, 400 unit banger" you can probably assume that they're probably betting $100 or $400.
"Schrödinger's bet." A bet that loses when you bet it but wins when you DON'T bet it...

I agree but forum members here have to understand. This is a MALE DOMINATED hobby (occasionally females here and there). What do males of the western civilization think like? Remember back in high school? Where the main concern was:
-who could lift (weightlifting, benching/squatting) the most?
-who had the bigger d1ck?
-who had the car with more horsepower?
Well, it's the same with sports betting. It's all about who's betting the most/largest. If you're not saying that that you don't bet more, you're perceived as being "weak" or not confident of your pick or your opinion doesn't matter. Hence why most bettors here are concerned with the bet amount and not necessarily the pick/information/reasoning provided. In fact there are a bunch of forum members here (not going to name them) who only follow somebody else because they claim to bet large and IMO, those blind sheep are idiots. Not just idiots but COMPLETE IDIOTS. IF forum member "a" is betting $20 a game and hitting 55% whereas member "b" is betting $1,000 a game and barely hitting 50%, I'll listen to member A more than member B. It just rationally makes sense.. Like why the F*ck would you follow member "b" when they're not even hitting 50%? Oh, it's because they bet $1,000 a game..

Let's not delude ourselves - many people bet 1k, 10k plays etc... But its a pyramid - while many bet 1-10k or more - 10,000x that many people bet $1-5 plays.... Online books have limits - 5dimes for example, I can only deposit up to 1k a day in max $500 increments.. Bitcoin enables me to get around those limits however...
Most online books cater to the masses of course... The sharper the book - generally the larger you can play... For example - Bovada has some minuscule limits - whereas I have made 2k bets on 5dimes no problem.. havent gone much higher since as you correctly mentioned there are limits to how much money you can even get into their system and $$ mgmt, precludes bets at much higher levels... Second reason, I have imposed limits on myself, the losses in a previous life, would make you vomit...
It's the local bookies that generally skew to the larger players... largely because they work in the cash economy and you the player do not have to float the cash up front... How can one individual (the bookie), who is just the front man of an organization, live a luxurious life if he has a bunch of players with $250 in their account... Its just dollars and cents...

If you lie, I can't trust you....Lying is bad-ok, we're friends, and that doesn't mean you can't critic my picks hard. I enjoy hearing differing opinions
agreed brother agreed.. Those that I know are throwing numbers out there that are false, or lying about wager sizes, I dont even have a trust/no trust thought about them... I just bypass everything they have to say
