Not sure what to make of these goofy formats in the Sun Belt and WCC tournaments:
Sun Belt: If you finish 1st or 2nd in the league, you actually get FIVE round byes, according to the teamrankings site. The tourney actually takes 7 days to complete (March 4-10 in Florida). All 14 teams make the tournament.
Day 1: 11th vs 14th, 12th vs. 13th.
Day 2: 9th vs, 12-13 winner; 10th vs 11-14 winner
Day 3: 7th and 8th place teams play winners of Day 2 games
Day 4: 5th and 6th place teams play winners of Day 3 games
Day 5: 3rd and 4th place teams play winners of Day 4 games
Day 6: 1st and 2nd place teams play winners of Day 5 games
Day 7: The final. Mercifully.
WCC: March 6-11 so it's "only" 6 days. Not going into same detail as Sun Belt, but similar format except there are only 11 teams and 1st and 2nd place teams get 4 round byes into the semifinals.
I assume the motivation is to ensure the top teams are more duly rewarded for regular season performance but really, this seems a bit much.
The other conferences generally have more common-sense formats. Obviously you have single byes in most cases, or double byes in some, but it's more or less what you expect a post-season tournament to be.
While practically all teams qualify for the vast majority of conference tournaments, the one major anomaly is in the MAC tourney March 13-15. Only the top 8 out of the 12 teams qualify, which means they get the tourney over in 3 days.
Anyhew ... just kinda spitballing here. Not trying to elicit any kind of response, just kinda thought it was well ... interesting.
