Why are spreads so low between #1 and #16 seeds?

Question

Back many years ago, we would see 1 seeds laying like 35 points to the 16th seed. I recalled I saw quite a few 30 point spreads with 1 seed against 16th seeds. Is there a reason there are no more high spreads?

My memory isn't that great but for sure I don't recall seeing 1 seeds only laying 15-20 points only. Is it because 1 seeds now aren't as good as they were before? I recalled there were some games back many years ago where Duke laid like 40 points in the 1st round and many other 1 seeds lay at least 25 points.

most 16 seed teams are slower paced teams limiting the 1 seed team&#x27;s possessions. Hard to cover a -40 spread with fewer shots. Highest spread I have seen in the past couple years is around 25

There has defintely been a 40 piont spread in the 1st round in the last 10 years or so.  I do notice in the last 5 years, spreads have been very small for 1 seeds vs 16 seeds.

maybe 5 years ago dd dogs covered 75%  so things had to change-good players left after one year, seniors played at the little guys...gotta stay ahead of the curve-one year soon Favs will cover 75%-get in now where the value is-not saying this year but if not, in the next 2-3-
