Bearcats @ Rutgers Over 47
Bearcats returns 8 offensive starters including T. Pike (QB) who earned 2nd team all Big East honor throwing 19tds, 61% completions, J. Linkenbach, all-American wideout/kick returner M. Gilyard. However, they have only 1 starter on defense A. Webster and 10 new starters on defense along with a new DC in Bob Diaco.
Rutgers on the other hand return 9 of the top 10 offensive linemen on the two-deep roster from last season and all 5 starters up front. The starting OL helped put up 54, 35, 49, 30, 63, 29 in their L6 games in 2008. The tailback trio of Kordell Young, Joe Martinek and Jourdan Brooks accounted for just under 1,500 yards and 15 scores last season, and all three are back in place.
Mix in an offensive line that returns all five starters, including standout tackle Anthony Davis, and Rutgers may be able to overcome any issues associated with the passing.
However, Rutgers lost 5 starters on defense and there are some questions in the secondary following the loss of two key players.
After looking further into both teams, there is obviously questionable defense issues on both side of the ball. Both offenses will put up pts as both defense lack experience.
