Alabama and Ohio State re two programs with most winning attitude you can find anywhere.
Alabama and Ohio State last met during the inaugural College Football Playoff in 2015. With Urban Meyer as a coach and Cardale Jones as a quarterback, the Buckeyes won the Allstate Sugar Bowl semifinal 42-35 and went on to win a national title.
Alabama and Ohio State have both dominated their conferences . Since the start of the 2014 season, Alabama is 59-5 against SEC opponents, and Ohio State is 59-4 against Big Ten opponents.
The usual ble bla bla would mention that the Tide is having usual problems against the mobile quarterbacks dating back to Deshaun Watson and we saw what Watson did to some Alabama defenses that were better than this one. Justin Fields has to perform well in order to infiltrate the Bama defense but if he does what he did against Clemson - even half of it - the Tide will have to employ all they have offensively to offset Ohio State scoring spree.
Many things have to happen for the Buckeyes to win this game. But, the biggest question mark is on special teams. If the Buckeyes won't let the Tide commando units to showcase their specialties - the biggest advantage the Tide has will be eliminated.
Another thing the Buckeyes don't want to engage in is a scoring war. Alabama and Ohio State are both averaging more than 43 points per game, and both offenses are equipped to rack up scores. And when it will come down to exchanging the blows -the Tide is able to hold much longer with better equipped offense and the depth.
Did you pay attention how many things have to go Ohio State's way for them to win this game? Ok. And, what about the cover? Will the tide blow the Buckeyes away scoring a full TD and the FG more than Justin Fields and the boys?
I am sure that won't happen and one of the reasons lays below: please go over that data under.
All the Championship Games since the playoff inauguration.
2019 - LSU 42 Clemson 25, Tigers (Clemson) -4.5, Over 66.5
2018 - Clemson 44 Alabama 16, Tigers +5.5, Over 57.5
2017 - Alabama 26 Georgia 23 (OT), Crimson Tide -3.5, Over 45.5
2016 - Clemson 35 Alabama 31, Tigers +6.5, Over 51.5
2015 - Alabama 45 Clemson 40, Crimson Tide -6.5, Over 53.5
2014 - Ohio State 42 Oregon 20, Buckeyes +6.5, Under 72.5
Overall, underdogs have gone 3-3 SU and 5-1 ATS.
Alabama has never covered the point-spread in any of its four CFB final appearances despite going 2-2 in the title game. Ohio State is 1-0.
The ‘over’ has gone 5-1 in the first six title games.
I really wanna end this college football season on a high note. Who doesn't. Especially when in order to fix the feeling we will have to wait till September and hope the Tale of a Handmade doesn't become a reality. I know some hope otherwise. But, all I want to say that it has been a gret ride this season oth in NFL and here - so, let's try to enjoy.
There are only two possible conclusion from my long and exasperating write up:
Under 74.5
Ohio State +9
