Oh this matchup brings back memories. I had just recently moved to Las Vegas (via the military) in 1980, young, spry, cocky and sure of myself. And you best believe I knew football, in grade school my nickname was "the sports encyclopedia." So betting on football was a natural progression in adulthood. And Vegas was the place to do it. My first "official" bet ever certainly looked like money in the bank. Alabama was cruising into Starkville with a 28 game winning streak, defending champs, number 1 in the country, and if memory serves me correctly, a mere 7 point favorite. Really? That's it, 1 touchdown? Stardust hotel, gimmee some of that (I believe the actual bet was for $50, on a soldiers pay a chunk of change amigos) Well, for you young bucks out there, Miss St not only covered the 7, they won outright, 6-3. Welcome to the world of sports betting.
Back to today, 2 premier defenses, #2 (bama) and #7 (miss st) in total defense, if you didn't know anything else 6-3 might sound like a final score in this matchup. The Bullogs haven't lost since September, back to back road losses @ Georgia and Auburn and yes, they were soundly thumped. They had a bit of a letdown last week against a scrappy UMASS team, failing to cover @ home, understandable with #1 ALA on deck. This is a good football team catching the Tide with a couple of critical defensive injuries and really 'Bama's strength. Let's face it, 'Bama is not Oklahoma or a lot of other teams offensively. I suspect the the crowd in Starkville will be like monkeys on cocaine tonight, just a bit crazy. 'Bama has soundly thrashed Miss St. the last 2 seasons and 2 TD'S on the road is a lot for anyone to cover especially in the SEC. Can anyone say "DEJA VU?"
MISS ST +13.5
2 other enticing home dogs in key matchups today will be on the betting platter as well-
IOWA ST +6.5
'CANES +3.5

Thx Mac, PARDO Auburn lookin' good. I think an Auburn win helps Miss St, if anything. 'Bama knows just a win then and they are back on top, versus having to win and win impressively if Georgia is able to come back the 2nd half. Some may say that's a stretch and Saban won't allow that, but these are 19-20 year old kids playing. And what if Miami handles Notre Dame decisively? Do they get respect then?. Lotta' football left, it should be interesting. Luv college football!

While I make all my own decisions, I do check out a couple of professional handicappers pix', Wayne Root in particular. 3 of his top 5 plays today are, Auburn, Miami, and Miss St., FWIW.

Thx bonchie, I believe the 'Bama teams of recent years are better than this team, and Auburn slappin' Georgia around can only help your (and my) cause.
