The NCAA uses a different passer rating formula than NFL does. Their formula is incredibly more complex.
The NCAA forumla uses "fixed numbers" which are "GIVENS" to the forumla... they are the same for each QB's ratings. Like my subject stated; it's more information than most people, other than another nerd, would ever want.
I just think there is value in understanding how the passer ratings numbers are calculated. If you look closely there are some important component weighings. i.e. TD's are king; it seems to favor completion percentages LESS than INT's and finally the least weight is given to Yards per Attempt. (I have a little problem with that).
I think that you would coach and manage a drive to maximize yards per attempt; in doing so the results would lead to those TD's. How do you coach or manage TD's ???? YOU CAN"T really, unless you throw all your passes deep.

Thats very interesting; it reminds me just how dependent our civilization is on the solution for Pi 3.14159 etc....
You can use that number for damn near everything relavent in life. For example. If you are planning a night out.. multiply what you planned to spend by Pi... you will be surprising close. If you think it will take so much time to build something..multiply the time by Pi... you will be dead balls on.. etc etc
