Been staring at this line for a really, really long time…hoping it’ll just pop out a give me my $ already.
- Iowa dominates this series 45-22, and has won ATS L5 3–1-1. Iowa looked solid in week 1 beating up on #17 Indiana 34-6.
- Iowa State looked half asleep barely edging out FCS UNI 16–10.
My take: UNI has played a 1 possession game w/ Iowa State 3-4 games since ‘16….solid squad that IS always seem to fall asleep on. Based on this trend, this shouldn’t have surprised many…but it did!!! Now this performance is carrying over to a huge W2 rivalry game.
I’m pretty sure LY’s muffed punt Is still freshly in the mind of Iowa State players..20 returning starters , and plus GOY released line had this as high as Cyclones -7 in August!!! Now we’re seeing a 3 point swing…anywhere around -4/-4.5
Coaching advantage - Iowa State/ Campbell (check)… is 3X B12 COY that turned down an NFL gig and renewed his contract till ‘28….class act coach that has delivered a pretty powerful message for his program saying he’s more focused on “ five-star culture vs. five-star players.”
Offensive advantage: Iowa State (check)
-Purdy..4 yr starter was 21/26 passing in W1 vs Iowa QB/Petras..13/27 145 yds in W1!?!?!
- Oline /RB - #4 & # 3 unit according to PS. Need I say more?
Heavily leaning Iowa State (think they can win by at least a TD) but waiting to pull the trigger as I’m noticing many are on Iowa based on trends and week 1 performance. Honestly feel Iowa State outperforms Hawkeyes in every possible way.
Would enjoy reading up on Iowa backers reasoning…

I wouldn’t say the coaching advantage goes to Iowa State when Campbell has never beaten Iowa 0-4. However, I think Iowa State gets it done this year but you never know in this game. I personally like the over 46 the most.

Iowa St. Always seems to play super tough against good teams. They play especially tough when it comes to going head to head with Iowa. I am probably alone here, but I also don’t consider Indiana to be win. Indiana is good, just not as good as everyone made them out to be in the off-season. Iowa is gonna have their hands full in this one as I feel Iowa St. Plays at a different speed. I personally think this game will be very close, but that’s just my 2 cents. That being said I think Iowa St. gets the cover. Best of luck should you pull the trigger.

Iowa fan here. Season Tickets forever and went/walked on there. I've seen this movie so many times it's silly. Cyclowns barely win week one or actually lose to shit team. Iowa looks amazing, line swings, Iowa gets spanked and then ISU never lives up to their performance the rest of the year while Iowa does well the rest of the year.
That being said. Diff Iowa team and culture these days. Better, younger staff. Bringing in Barnett was big as was bringing in Ladell Betts. Iowa State is not faster this year. Yes they run a very diff offense that is more efficient yet speed is equal if not better for Iowa. Completely diff level of athlete for Iowa than you are used to. Jestin Jacobs OLB/Rush edge/DE Iowa moves all over the place is a future NFL player starting for the first time that crushed Indiana and turned down Ohio st for Iowa (why haha who the hell knows) Back 7 is very good and very experienced.
DL is young, very athletic. Yawha Black future star as is Logan Jones. Defense will keep iowa in it and perhaps ahead at points in the game.
offense...well shit ISU is real deal if Kolar plays. Diff maker that Iowa will need to game plan for. If he does not play that changes things. Look for Iowa to stuff Hall and let Purdy beat them. He will. This is their superbowl. that is real here and it is not media gibberish. we have beaten them in for what 5 years in a row. Campbell 0-4 vs Ferentz. RB Hall and Goodson are a wash. Both good. WRS I would take Iowa in a heartbeat. Tyrone Tracy outstanding, watch for Keegan Johnson true Freshman who will play along with Arland Bruce. ISU wrs are big, good yet not the same. Iowa's Oline is quick and good. Linderbaum might be the best C you will see in the last 5 years. He is that good, that strong and mean as fuck. ISU has a big, experienced OL that is B level talent. Against Iowa's inexperienced line playing in their first big game ever on the road with fans I see Hall doing pretty well in the 2nd half. iowa offense is young, talented, athletic. The QB not as much. He is conservative and can turn a game with senseless INTs (see Northwestern last year) if he gets hurt Iowa is fucked. Padilla about shit his pants when he got in vs indiana last week. Literally. Diff in this game is Purdy. He crushes big games and has ever since arriving in Ames. He will win this game. If Kolar plays I get more confident in that statement. I NEVER bet this game albeit I do like that over someone mentioned prior. This is not your Mark Weisman Iowa offense. It's diff. Brian Ferentz is diff and the athletic talent is much much better. Iowa TE Laporta real deal and 2nd TE (he will play a lot) Luke Lachey is big, tall and going to be a player.
Last factor. It's hotter than donut grease in Iowa right now. Sat Forecast 90, sunny and piece of shit humid. Who has the deeper squad? Iowa has more depth and rotates 8 on both lines. Won't matter as Purdy single handedly will beat Iowa. Iowa is going to have a very good season. I took the over 8.5 wins and i'm very confident in that. We will beat Penn st and the whisky game will decide the West. I like our chances this year as last. That being said A TON working against the Hawks here and even though I will be there (hopefully i don't go to jail-their fans are like my little brother) I really don't see us walking out with the W.
I would take ISU 1H, the heat makes the 2H a crapshoot and honestly I wouldnt take this game. I like the over yet again factor in that damn heat. Florida/Texas kids like that shit everyone here fucking hates it. We like 10 degrees and snowing beating Michigan and others at night. Hope my rambling helps at all. I know this is long and happy to answer any questions> I'm inconsistent getting on here yet will check. I know the Iowa program extremely well and our staff. Oh fun fact it has been 1,369 days since the cyclowns beat Iowa in anything meaningful.

Appreciate the Hawkeye fan feedback and weather forecast. Didn’t factor that in…highly considering taking IS FG ML or 1H after reading your take
@VolsFan91
Yes, Ferentz has way more achievements, & have beaten IS L5, but primarily looking short term window. I think Campbell has done more with cultural improvement for this lil’ brother team.
@sSleepy
I think IU will recover from this. Way too early to make assumptions.

Brock Purdy is hit or miss....for the Cyclones...He can look awful and lost at times....Iowa +4 is mighty juicy...This looks like a FG game either way..

A heated rivalry game that could go either way, and is almost always very close. Surely you can find a better game to bet on. If you have to bet this, i think you have to take the points. I would think +10 1/2 would be a very safe bet, it you can find another team to tease with Iowa. gl

Also Iowa hasn't lost by more than 7 points in 32 games. Also haven't given up more than 21 points in a long time as well. The only plays here are Iowa +4 or the under.

GOY lines always influence my cap..... If you like Iowa, you should have LOVED +7 when those lines were released. After one week we have people already down on Iowa St..... and now you have Iowa St -4.... I think there may be a strong chance this dips to 3.5 by later in the week and thats what im waiting for. Cyclones will be ready for Iowa this year.
Iowa is fundamental football at its finest. They rarely hurt themselves... Instead they just play very disciplined and wait for teams to screw up.... They are solid enough in all 3 phases that, inevitably, the other team always blinks first..... Not this Iowa St.
This is a game they want badly. No way was Campbell putting anything on tape for Iowa to study. Cyclones were vanilla vs Northern Iowa. That Northern Iowa team had over 20 starters back and a rock solid defense. Granted, Iowa State should have looked better but theres no question about where their true focus was. They won and sometimes thats good enough.

..They won 16-10....It was 13-10 midway through the 4th...I bet in the 3rd and 4th quarter...it was all out to win the game for Campbell and ISU...Forget not showing Iowa stuff on tape..They were about to lose to an FCS team as a 28 point fave...Iowa St should have been able to just line up and run the ball down N. Iowa's throat with Bryce Hall and win by 20+ conservatively.....They could not even do that...

GOY lines are definitely something I consider especially when there’s a small spread of +/- 3. Books obviously know something when an inferior team has a short opening line vs a superior team the public loves. Picture paints a thousand words. You just have keep starring until you see it.
