Since I live in Ireland where the game is being played I am going to do a writeup on it in case any of you degens are going to get up at 7:30 am to watch it.
Last time they played a NCAAF game in Croke Park I went to it, but that game held a lot more interest for me as I grew up in PA and it was PSU vs UCF. I had a great time and also picked the winner (PSU won on a last minute kick). This game is in the Aviva which means most seats are farther away, and this game doesn't interest me as much from either an entertainment or betting perspective so I'm not going to bother going to Dublin for it. Good seats are way more expensive this time around, probably because there are so many Irish in Boston coming over. Between that, eating/drinking/staying in Dublin (which is as expensive as NYC), and the rip off that is Irish Rail (50 euro for a 3 hr train ride round trip on the weekend), and the fact that this game features 2 offenses that couldn't score against anyone last year, I'll pass. I'm not paying through the nose to watch the GT triple option, we have enough rugby over here if I want to see backward passing. And BC, they were 127th out of 128 teams in FCS in points per game. Ugh.
However, BC has a new coordinator and a new QB, Patrick Towles, who used to play at Kentucky, and I actually always thought he had plenty of ability, it's just he was overmatched playing against the SEC and got little help from his supporting cast. They also get their starting RB back who was hurt most of last year.
I generally like to play against teams with new coordinators and QBs, but after watching GT's disaster of a season last year, I'm not looking to put money on them because they are going up against one of the best defenses in the league. My perspective is that BC's offense HAS to be better. They have reason to think it will be, and it can't be worse. GT really struggled and when all you do is run and you're playing a team that was ranked 1 in yards allowed, it's going to be tough.
Plus last time in Ireland the favorite won and covered, so go dog this time. This will be like a home game for BC, tons of Irish fans are coming from Boston. It wouldn't surprise me if this came down to a kick like last time.
It also wouldn't surprise me if this went Under. Hurricane Gaston was meant to hit Ireland at the weekend. Now they say it's going to miss us but it will probably be windy and cold anyway. It always is!
So that's my prediction: BC +3 and Under. Slainte!

Thanks for posting on this game. First off, who isn't going to be watching at 7:30am, it's the only game on!
No mention of new BC D-Coordinator Jimmy Reid. With multiple weeks to prepare for the option, I'll take a Jim Reid defense all day. Yes, I'm biased.... obligatory 1986 Jimmy Reid & yours truly TD photo uploaded for the emoticon. Look at all that hair on TD's head
Ok, back to reality, BC SR LB Matt Milano should be all over the field. I'm on U44 for 1 unit. Wanted to back BC + points, but then the before-mentioned transfer QB Towles dedicated the season to Harambe and I got scared off by the makeup of Towles. Or maybe it was the Harry Potter stuff. Nonetheless, Towles has to be an upgrade at QB, right?!? Time will tell.
Back to the 1980s.... Jimmy Reid once won a football game 3-0 and then invited assistants over to celebrate with a beer.
Fast forward to the year 2000, Jimmy Reid took Richmond (before they were a strong team at that level) to the I-AA playoff quarterfinals with an offense that averaged only 19 ppg. When asked how he did it...."I take the best 12 athletes, put 11 on defense and 1 at quarterback and tell him not to lose the game."
Love this guy! In all seriousness, one of the best defensive teachers of the game I've seen.
Here's to an ugly, low scoring game to start the day on Saturday!

DoubleUp,
Glad you enjoyed that. I certainly get a little sentimental, nostalgic, storytelling, etc, etc. this time of year. Just fired up for football to finally be here. This Saturday is like Christmas for adults. Can't wait!

Yeah I'm aware Reid is there now didn't mention it since that isn't the side of the ball that needs fixing. I am definitely thinking Under is stronger than a side play. Having a new O and D coordinator and new QB is a lot of changes, and there's a good chance GT bounce back this year (they were awesome in 2014, nearly beat FSU). They are returning their starter, and he knows exactly how to run the offense. I still think it comes down to a FG and GT probably has the edge in the kick game

Hey man where in Ireland do you live and what are you doing over here? I was born in American and I came over to live in Dublin for school. I'm taking BC +3 and possibly the under, but I won't be going to the game either.
