2014 BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PREDICTION & PREVIEW
Florida State Seminoles (13 – 0) @ Auburn Tigers (12 – 1)
Monday January 6, 8:30 PM EST
Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA
The undefeated Florida State Seminoles roll into the BCS National Championship game as a beefy 8.5 point favorite against the red hot Auburn Tigers. The total is set at 67.
Florida State comes in having finished their perfect season by routing a Duke team in their conference championship game. Florida State’s undefeated season is no fluke as they finished last year at 12 – 2. Led by Heisman winner Jameis Winston the Noles led the country in points scored averaging a whopping 53 per game. What might be more impressive than the offense is the defense which allowed a paltry 10 points per game. Leading the country in both offense and defense is quite a feat and it’s no wonder Florida State went undefeated.
Auburn is the Cinderella story this season, picked by most to finish near the bottom of their conference they have seemingly come out of nowhere to finish #2 in the BCS and a shot a second title in the past 5 years. Auburn’s bread and butter is the ground game. They led the country in rushing yards and average 52 rushing attempts per game. It’s no secret Auburn is going to run, run some more and then run more after that. Slow down the run game and Auburn can be beat.
I expect Auburn to try and impose its will against a strong Florida State front 7 all night long. Keep Florida State’s offense off the field and Auburn can pull of the upset but in the end Florida State is too tough on both sides and will come away victorious.
This line should be 3 - 4 points, not 8+. The Seminoles win a thriller and send the BCS out with a bang in a Championship game for the ages.
