Can a team be good enough to not practice for an opponent?

Question

I ask because of Oklahoma State @ Arizona in week 2.

OSU starts the season off with absolute cream-puff Savannah State, who has won 2 games in the past 2 years of Div 2 (or whatever) football. Check their schedule here:

They usually get shellacked as well.

So I wonder, will OSU even practice/prepare film/worry about Savannah State much at all? Or will they prepare straight for their first real game @Arizona.

Zona starts Week 1 against a pretty froggy Toledo squad that will no doubt have their new coaching staffs attention over the summer.

Am I being a homer here or does this really bode well for the Pokes? OSU vs Arizona brings good name value and I imagine the spread will be a bit smaller than it should be. I'd at least like OSU in the first half and possibly the under on the total.

Just noticed how light Florida State&#x27;s schedule is as well.  Guess I should expect the same result with Wake Forest @ FSU in week 3, if I follow my logic.

agree... Don&#x27;t think many of the Big Dogs prepare for FCS foes.... sometimes it can bite you ( Michigan vs App St.)

No college coach would ever send his team into a game without having them fully prepared for their opponent, no matter who it may be.

In the case of Ok. State vs. Savannah State, I'm sure that the coaching staff is studying much more Arizona game film than Savannah State film right now. The Tigers may be the worst team in the FCS.

I saw it on EDSBS a few months ago and had to save it. You are one of the few that probably recognize what's going on there. I think that the image dates back to the early/mid eighties.

Did a little research into SSU&#x27;s spring practice  session to see if there is any hope of better things ahead for the Tigers in 2012. Based on the following statement from their spring game, i don&#x27;t believe so;&#xD;&#xA;SAVANNAH, Ga. &#x2013; The Savannah State Tigers wrapped up the Spring Football Practice Season Saturday at T.A. Wright Stadium with the annual Orange and Blue scrimmage.The offense in white with quarterbacks in orange scored two touchdowns, while the defense in blue jersey&#x2019;s recorded 24 sacks, forced two fumbles and grabbed one interception.&#xD;&#xA;    This one could be the ugliest matchup of the entire season.

If you go back to last year,Ok St opened against La Laf.Gundy had
a strategy of "non contact " drills in preparation for the game.The
line opened at -361/2 and got bet up to -381/2.Weeden threw 2
picks that wrer returned for TD's and OSU failed to cover.

OSU  won&#x27;t "game plan" for SS..........they&#x27;ll just work their O &amp; D, which I&#x27;m sure they feel will be sufficient to beat SS. AZ, otoh, will have to take Toledo much more seriously. &#xD;&#xA; Can be a dangerous situation as some have mentioned.............EasternWA gave the Huskies all they wanted in a similar spot LY.

A lot of teams are done with the game preparations for teams in Week 2 right now. It is different at different programs though

We had a day of practice geared towards our second opponent in two a days at Alabama.

YESthe line on this one could be VERY interesting....by LY&#x27;s ratings...Okie St would be about 75-100pts betterSSU about the same (we&#x27;ll be generous.....as in 2nd year of new HC).......OSU slightly worse....probably   Last year SSU lost to SE Louisiana 63-6.....SELA is about 60 pts worse....than Okie St.........Good news....SSU gets about $850,000 for the 2 massacres.....will they be looking ahead to FSU?....Bad news...QB and RB&#x27;s may lose use of 1 or more body partsFSU AD....said "they have a great band"......OK to rip OSU for scheduling these boys ......not FSU as they had WVirg there (pulled out when move to B12 was announced)....prolly the biggest back to back mismatches in CFB history All Okie St will do here is know how to line up.....since they have a bye before Texas (on 9/29)....they should work only one day on SSU stuff...rest on Zona...especially offensively....since Zona now runs that WV 3-3-5 stack D.....rarely seen and tough to prepare for ....

There needs to be an end to games like OSU / Savannah st.  Only the good Div 2 teams should get a shot at the big boys.  This is totally stupid to have a matchup like this.  It should not even count as a win for the Cboys.

In OSU&#x27;s defense,  Tulsa backed out of their return trip for 2012 and rescheduled it for 2016.I didn&#x27;t mean to sound smug with this thread, but Savannah State is definitely not an Appalachian State quality of Div 2 team. Will they actually release a line for Savannah State @ OSU?I was more interested in how it should effect OSU @ Arizona, with such a light scrimmage before a real game to start the season.

i actually beleive OSU will take this game a bit more serious than u guys think....remember some of the important names on offense are not there anymore so confidence its of the escence for ur new QB and all the new players.....and just what the doctor ordered a complete puff cake to take on ......if this were weeden and all the last year team ..well i would agree a 100% but since its not .... no coach would want its new players to be struggling against a lowlife team

nope....game was dropped due to Big 12 realignment
originally scheduled for 9/29 (now Texas game)....2016 1st time they could finalize the 3 game contract

STILL.....the worst team ever to play a Big 12 team.....and a terrible game for season ticket holders

***SSU was signed up because many schools want 750K or so .....OSU went for the lower bid....which here is "only" $385,000....some schools have paid 1 mil + for similar type games
