CFB Week 6

Just once I'd like to be able to bet on Kentucky and have Maxwell Smith start and finish a game.


Ball State +3

I really like this team. Their defense sucks but what MAC teams' doesn't? Wenning is a pure stud, they've got good skill players and most importantly they play hard every single week. Real bad spot for them last week and they still played well. This team lost a by a FG at the buzzer @ Northern Illy last year as 18 point dogs. They are much better this season and should knock off the Huskies here if they are serious about winning the west. Those games against USF, CLEM, and even IND will have them well-prepared for these later season big games. Still not sold on Northern Illy yet, in their lone road game they gave up 40 and only won by a single point against an Army team that may be one of the worst in college football.


Eastern Michigan +3

Hitting the MAC again for this one. Kent State is a scrappy team that is a good bet as a dog but these types of teams are usually equally as bad as favs. Eastern Michigan has been a disgrace so far and no doubt will be giving it their all in a winnable game off the bye week. Danger for Kent State here too is coming on the road off a wild high scoring game in which they put together a big FG winning drive late after nearly blowing a game they led throughout. This is the type of spot where a team that isn't used to winning comes in against a doormat and gets caught still patting themselves on the back from last week.


Illinois +14.5

The Illinois part of the equation here is just me buying low on them. No one thinks anything of this team at the moment after being blown out numerous times this season. The last two weeks have looked worse on the scoreboard than they really were as they committed 9 turnovers the last two weeks and a lot early to turn games upside down quickly. Scheelhaase even said last week was the first time he started to feel good again after the injury. Other part of the equation is Wisconsin. They are off a brutal loss to Nebraska. The quotes after the game last week tell the story of how tough it was blowing a 17 point 2nd half lead there. This team hasn't done anything as a fav this year so why should we expect them to suddenly rise up against what is seen as a terrible team off that loss last week? They'll just go through the motions here.

Arkansas +10

I think the buy sign is finally up for this team after how bad they've been in the last month. This to me is one of those situations where people are so down on one team that they forget just how bad the other team is. Auburn shouldn't be laying 10 points to anybody. A game that looked good on the scoreboard in which LSU fucked around and a bye week seem to be erasing the memory that the Tigers offense is horrible. Not only that but their #2 receiver has been suspended for this game. The Razorbacks defenders were called out for lack of effort last week and this is the type of situation they show up and play well against a borderline anemic offense. Wilson and his offense have moved the ball well the last two weeks but key mistakes and turnovers have cost them big. Auburn's defense is not very good either IMO. Think Arkansas has a great chance for a SU win here.

Washington State +15.5

The term letdown gets thrown around too much these days but this is the text book definition of a letdown game. Oregon State is off two real tough, hard fought road conference wins that came down to the last possession or two. It is tough to win on the road in College Football and those kids had to have given it their all the last two weeks. Now they return home to play a bad team, it's only natural they let up a little here and go through the motions for a significant part of the game. It also helps they play @BYU next week in a game they will be dogged again. Leach said he really liked the way the team played last week. Despite losing by 25 they were only down 3 at the half before a quick Ducks TD in the 3rd quarter followed by a pick 6 on the very next possession turned the game. There was a lot to build on for WSH St last week and this is the type of game where they can continue turning the corner.

Like the Ball St play. That's a quality squad.

Good situation for Eastern Michigan but a very very bad matchup. Awful play at QB and Kent State is great at defending against the rush.

Gl with your plays, those are some scary teams to put money on. I wouldn't touch any of those with somebody else's money.

Oregon -24

Last week was a game where the Washington defense could rise up and play well against a young QB/offensive line and quite frankly an offense that is not good at all with a good home crowd behind them. The Huskies D played their butts off last week and even with 2 extra days rest I think they will be hard pressed to duplicate anything near that kind of performance against a high tempo team like the Ducks. Oregon will run these guys down and pull away IMO on offense as the Huskies run out of gas. On the other side of the ball this is not the environment you want with a raw offensive line. This unit allowed a jailbreak rush every two plays against Stanford and on the road in this stadium at night against a defense that is still way under the radar I think they are in real trouble. Remember this is a Huskies team that has averaged 13.7 PPG against FBS foes this season and never scored more than 21 in a game. Washington beating Stanford last week ensures Oregon won't show up and just go through the motions. Ducks win big.

Andy, what ya think about penn st and cal this week?

Georgia Tech +11

Clemson is still the same fraud they were last season with that joke of a defense. Tech will be focused this week and should be able to move the ball comfortably against this unit. I'm not buying the revenge angle much in this one. Clemson is off two tough conference road games and now gets to face a team with a losing record that just got blown out at home by Middle Tennessee State. Seems like a flat spot, not a spot where they come out looking to kill what is seen as a team in disarray. Gut check game for Tech.

Cal is probably the play but to me they are not playable going forward unless they are catching a boatload of points. Maynard is inexplicably bad. If he's not air-mailing receivers he's throwing picks or holding the ball too long and taking sacks. GL on that one.
