Hawaii at Umass

At first glance this seems like a garbage game where it's a coinflip between 2 garbage teams.

The more I've looked into it the more and more I've started to like Hawaii. 

Both team returns the exact amount of starters:

Hawaii with 14 (8 on O including QB and 6 on D)
UMASS with 14 (6 on O including QB and 8 on D)

Both QB's are fairly decent but the difference for offence is that Hawaii has one of the more experienced O-lines with 120+ starts between the starters whereas UMASS only has 29 starters between the starters on the Oline. 

Defensively I think both teams will leak a ton of points. I like where Hawaii is heading under Rolovich with a bowl appearance last year and winning 52-35 against middle Tennessee as 7.5 point dogs. UMASS went 2-10 last year with a win against Wagner and FIU, the win total this season is 3 and I have a hard time seeing them getting to 4 wins.

Hawaii are ranked 2nd highest in their division right behind San Diego State. If they want to go bowling again this game against UMASS is crucial. Obviously Hawaii is notorious for playing badly on the mainland and they will have to travel 5k miles to play against UMASS; which is the longest travel in the history of this football team. Whether I play Hawaii or not depends on when they arrive at Boston. If they arrive at least 10 days and get acclimated to the time zone difference then I love Hawaii at -1/pk.

Anyone with knowledge of these teams I would love your input. I know there was a guy called HawaiiWarrior or something and he was very accurate with games that involved the Rainbow Warriors, I would like your input if possible.

You're probably right, but I'm always wary of Hawaii on the mainland especially travelling to the east coast (5 hour time differential).  Anyways it's a no touchie for me, but wanted to give you my feedback..

Let me start by saying this: I've researched this game for 3 months and it's going to be one play and on end play only if I decide to pull the trigger:

UMass.

First point: Sharp Money.

I check CFB line daily for little movement.

Some of the biggest movement I've seen was for this game.

At the beginning of June this line went from Hawaii -3.5 to a pick'um in ONE DAY on 5 Dimes. IT has settled at -1 Hawaii.

Standard traditional line reading SCREAMS sharps moved the line off two key numbers -3.5 and -3 and the 2.5 pts MORE, in the middle of JUNE no less.

So the square side is Hawaii, even through the line currently doesn't speak to that.

That's just ONE point I have. More to come maybe.

Point 2:

These teams JUST PLAYED in Umass' final regular season game.

EVERYONE thought lowly 2-9 Umass having just gotten drubbed by BYU the week before 51-9 would use this trip as a spring break of sorts.

Well guess what, 5,000 miles later UMass played with Hawaii tooth and nail on their field (where Hawaii has a massive advantage) and fell 46-40 but covered as 8 pt dogs.

And that team was definitely not as good as this one with all the returning starters. And now umass gets them At home.

And the cliche Hawaii is bad in the continental US cannot be overstated. They barely beat the abominable worst Fresno State team ever by a mere 1 pt 14-13 on a FS mistake. And Fresno is no stroll to Umass in travel or quality.

 I agree with all of your points except one, Hawaii traveled to Australia for their first game last year - now they lost to the Bear Raid offense but if I'm not mistaken, they covered the spread. Not saying you're wrong - the cliche is very very true. BUT my one concern with this cliche is that Hawaii actually has time to prepare, ready themselves & travel.

Honestly, I'm very curious to see which Hawaii team comes out to play to start their season, as someone stated above... this W for Hawaii is important when it comes to their chances of a bowl game this year...

Valid point Chachi. The first game is definitely different than game 8 in terms of bouncing back and forth between Hawaii and the stars like a ping pong ball. The "Hawaii stateside" angle loses a lot of luster in that regard. That is one reason I haven't pulled the trigger on this bet yet.

Jimmy the Greek...he'd probably still be capping on TV today if his just didn't let his mouth run too much!

He wouldn't be capping on tv today regardless, he's been dead for years! RIP

I think the fallout lead to his early demise. 

You're 55\65 years old and you cap sports and then that's all taken away from you. Many people can't find much purpose! Just conjecture of course.

I'm not sure that the public is on Hawaii, from some of the stats I've seen it seems like both square/sharp money is on UMASS (more sharp money). 

This is more of a fade of UMASS than backing Hawaii. The fact that I'm even considering betting on Hawaii away from the Island is how down I feel about the minutemen. Once I know when Hawaii will arrive on the east coast I will decide if I will play this game. I still like Hawaii.

10 days early!? ..... that does not seem realistic for a college football team!  This is a school that already struggles overall with athletic budgets (because of long travel -- & including non-revenue sports).... they're not going to pay extra $ for hotels for that many people for that many days.  Part of the reason Hawaii football has so many away non-conference games is to balance the budget and get paid.  I would be shocked if they did something like leaving this early.  Good luck with your play if you pull the string on this one.

A..  Hawaii crossing what 5 time zones.....(.likely to arrive Thursday morning EARLY ?).....theoretically taking them about 5 days to be back to 100% 

you know what's coming dontcha............

B.  AND........classes begin for Hawaii on AUGUST 21....UMass Sept 6........which means not only the stress of classes etc

But that Hawaii is restricted to 20 hrs/week.......4 hrs/day....of 'countable' activities..........UMass (not in class).....is not
  * both are limited to 6 practices/week.....3 contact / 3 non-contact

Gotta say at least 5?...........

just to point out, that game last year was the saturday following thanksgiving break.  i highly doubt the team flew back east from Provo Idaho for 2 days of classes, to then turn around and fly to Hawaii.  i think with a little digging we'll find the UMASS team went straight from provo to the islands over thanksgiving.

guess scal was too busy wqtching msnbc and following false narratives to pick UMass when they actually had value and were catching a ton on points. Nice angle "the sharps are on it!" aka ALL the value got sucked out and you are following steam. Scals one flaw is being blinded by liberal agendas, just ignore that part of him before deciding to fade or follow. judging by his avatar, and dickriding for clinton, he has a severe psychological inferiority complex. LOVES racists but only if they have black skin.

That is correct. They didn't fly back home. I remember they flew out to Hawaii early.

All the value got sucked out of it??? Lol. 3.5 is a TON of points??? Wow. Keep capping like that and you'll continue to do what you always do, lose...and then troll afterwards with no roll.

I'd rather cap a game irrelevant of line movement for however long it takes and deal with the line I CAPPED than grab (all the value!!!) with a hurried cap. 

That's a losing capper right there folks. Clear as day.

I completely agree, it totally did. Plus, seems like his whole life was devoted to gambling in some shape or form - even when he was young. I highly recommend the ESPN 30 for 30 : The Legend of Jimmy the Greek
