Yep 8. There will always be crying but really there will never be more than 8 great-good teams in the country.
Also I disagree with this. If you go back and look at past years there is almost always at least 10-15 teams with at least 2 losses. This year is one of the first that only 8 teams have 2 or less losses. Basketball lets in 65 and teams still complain.

Someone will always be left out no matter the number of teams invited. The players do not want the extra games that would require(2 more games than right now), as that further increases the chance of injury, lessens their football life expectancy (not to mention would prob be cutting a month or so at least into the spring semester if current scheduling was not altered). The other bowl planners sure as shizz don't want an 8 team system as that would put further emphasis on the main games, and weaken an already weakened bowl selection pool. Lastly as a fan I do not necessarily want a 8 team system either. If I want to go to my team's playoff games I would then be required to takes time from work on 3 separate occassions. Pay travel, accommodation, and expenses 3 separate times. Add in ticket costs to all 3, and this has become an extremely expensive ordeal. Also not knowing whether your team will advance or not would make buying tickets/flights/hotels a real pain. Where is game #2 of playoff going to be played if it is based off of the highest seed receiving an edge? How much time in between games are we getting to make said accommodations? Lastly other sports, and cable networks would not want this. As explained above this would most likely add at least 1 month to the football season, as I do not see them starting the playoff games early and increasing the competition for viewership between the playoff and other bowls(Would be a lose:lose for football bowl $'s). So now football is cutting into what has previously been the time when basketball really starts to heat up. More options for the consumer is rarely good for the provider imo.
In theory I really like the idea of a bigger system, but like most things in this increasingly inclusive society it really just complicates things further and adds deadweight.
