Yes that’s right. There is a rubber band game on the sheet. One of the rarest of things.Like a unicorn, a blue moon and a four leaf clover all in the same day.I am back at the Aria sports book and this week’s card is generous enough to supply us with a Rubber Band Game. For you uniformed, a rubber band game means you take a fat wad of cash out of your pocket. You wrap it in a rubber band and you don’t bother counting it.You bounce it over to the ticket window to the guy taking your bet and you know in 3 hours you’ll be collecting double.
After a triumphant and emotional victory at Iowa State against a very tough Cyclone squad, followed by a bye week, the Hawkeye defense will be drooling for some fresh meat in front of a ravenous and fired up home crowd.Limping in comes a complete ass MTSU team ranked #106 in the FBS.MTSU lost by 19 to a fraudulent Michigan team and a garbage TD very late made this score look closer than the game itself. They then went back and forth with an FCS Tennessee State team that isn’t as good as UMASS.In their last game, played at home, they lost by 23 to Duke. What was revealing about the Duke game is that the Duke QB (not Daniel Jones) hit on 24 of his 27 passes against the MTSU non-defense.Hey guys, you’re supposed to cover the receivers downfield.Don’t even get me started comparing Duke to Iowa. One team has a defense, the other team doesn’t.Guess which one does?

Hand me down my walkin' cane
Hand me down my hat
Hey ya'll prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You've never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You're bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam

That’s right, Iowa’s defense has only given up 11 points per game in their games played this year. They negated an Iowa State team that lit up ULM for 77 points in their next game.We will watch out for MTSU’s Asher O’Hara as he is a gutsy QB. He’s a solid runner and won’t mind running between the tackles and he loves busted plays.Having said that, Iowa is prepared for this and it will be a miracle if Middle Tennessee scores more than 10 points.Duke sacked the MTSU quarterback 6 times.Against Michigan, MTSU allowed 3 sacks and 6 drive killing TFLs.How many do you think Iowa is going to get in front of their crazy crowd.I expect that MTSU won’t score a touchdown. The Iowa coaches are making sure that the Hawkeyes won’t be sleeping on MTSU.In practice they have been bringing up narrow wins against UNI and Arkansas State in ’09 and a loss to North Dakota State in ’16.
The key to covering this game is that Iowa will need to put up points. The Hawkeyes will have a game plan to run it down their throats and not let up. But they will be balanced. The Hawkeye QB, Nate Stanley, is an excellent field general and he hasn’t thrown an interception all season. He has started the last 29 games at quarterback. No nerves here.We know MTSU cannot stop the pass, but they can’t stop the run either. The Blue Raiders are ranked 120th in the FBS in rushing yards against surrendering 220 yards-per-game and over 5 yards-per-carry on the ground and they haven’t even played a team that is good at running the ball. The Blue Raiders’ front seven are really going to get manhandled and worn down in the trenches and once the game gets out of reach that will lead to big chunks of yardage for Iowa.MTSU has given up an average of 35.7 points, ranking them 114th in scoring defense. That includes a game against Tennessee State and a sterile Michigan offense.Iowa won by 24 points against Miami Ohio in week one and they shut out Rutgers 30-0 in week two. MTSU is not as good as either of those two teams. The Hawkeyes are playing spectacular defense. Middle Tennessee State relies on their passing game, however, Iowa is limiting opponents to an average of only 184 passing yards per game and once MTSU gets behind on the scoreboard Iowa won’t have to respect the run anymore and will be focused on shutting down the MTSU passing.Besides that, the Blue Raiders haven’t generated any significant offense on the ground, and the Hawkeyes rush defense stands 14th in the country. You know what happens when you can’t run the ball on the road? You lose.
-MTSU is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games overall.-Hawkeyes are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.
The soft MTSU defense, which allowed 40 points to both Michigan and Duke, will make this large point spread very reasonable and the Hawkeye defense will not permit any backdoor covers.I am laying the wood and bouncing the rubber band wad across the window for 11 units.

iamhuge, appreciate all of your write-ups and analysis. Few questions on the Iowa game since this did not jump out to me until I read your write-up. Any concerns with the starting RG out for Iowa or do you think even the backups should be able to manhandle the starting Dline for MTSU? I've also read Iowa is a little banged up in the secondary and I would assume they want to come out of this game as healthy as possible with Michigan on deck. I know you mentioned that the coaches are making sure they won't be sleeping on MTSU, possible look ahead to a big game @ Michigan next weekend?

With regard to Iowa's best lineman being out, that's not a concern since MTSU's defense is so pathetic. I think the fact that Iowa is coming off of a bye week means that a convincing victory will be important to all members of the Hawkeye team and staff. Actually my biggest concern is that Duke looked really darn good tonight and so MTSU's defeat to Duke does not look as bad as maybe it once did.

I live in Lexington. UK fan. One thing is for sure. UK will get the, in words of handicapper Paul stone, the FULL COLLECTIVE PSYCHE of cocks. I'll pass I do like NWESTERN!!! coach is an underdog coach, Cats will be ready. Give me the points. Bol
NWestern is gonna get rolled. Bol
Possible, but this rivalry is weird. If I was going to bet I would take the points. Wisconsin could have a letdown.

Huge, it looks like you and your buddies should have a fun and profitable weekend in Vegas. I miss being in CO where if you didnt have anything to do, just hop over to the airport and in an hour or two, there's Vegas.
Hope you cash big, I am on a couple of these already and now looking closer at the others, as I need something to break this drought :)
Cheers,

Kentucky +3 SOUTH CAROLINA Despite this, Coach Muschamp is doing his best George “The Liar” O’Leary imitation: Muschamp said the team is for the most part healthy heading into the Kentucky game. He did speak on Ryan Hilinski, who battled some elbow soreness in a loss to Missouri. Muschamp said he is “absolutely” going to be ready for Saturday. “He made every throw today,” Muschamp said. “He looked great and there’s been absolutely no cut of reps or anything. He looks great.” Yeaaaaah Riiiiiiight. Kentucky’s QB is banged up also, but doesn’t look to be as bad. On his Monday call-in show, Mark Stoops had a more encouraging update on Sawyer Smith for the week ahead. “Sawyer is feeling much better today than he was yesterday,” Stoops said. “That’s good. Hopefully, he keeps progressing and gets back to 100% by this weekend.” Time for a visit from Dr. Feelbetter. Enough of the drama. Kentucky put up 38 points in each of its wins over Toledo and Eastern Michigan. MAC teams yes, but no cupcakes. Then they hit the iron in their schedule, dropping a game to Florida that they really should have won. Now EVERYONE loves Florida. They had their worst game of the year by far at Mississippi State, who really needed that win after bombing at home against Kansas State. No matter…it’s time for Kentucky to bounce back. South Carolina hasn’t won an FBS game this year. Their only victory was over an 0-4 FCS team, Charleston Southern and then got beat up by Alabama and Missouri. Frankly if you pit Kentucky’s 3 best games against South Carolina’s 3 best games, it looks like Kentucky is 2 touchdowns better than the Gamecocks. Give them 4 points for home field, but that doesn’t get South Carolina a victory. They need to win this game to cover and I think Kentucky wins this one outright on the road. Taking the 3 points and the ‘Cats in an “upset” for 6 units.
I had to finally register an account to comment on this. I'm a Gamecock fan and will be going to the game tonight. I will be rooting for Carolina and won't play this game but wanted to add something. Ryan Hilinski's injury has been labeled as tendonitis. The backup QB, Dak Joyner, is out with a hamstring injury. This leaves the 4th string QB, sophomore Jay Urich, as the backup. He's been taking reps at WR all season. He is supposedly the fastest guy on the team.
Now while the Gamecocks did get blown out the last 2 weeks it was mostly on the offense. The defense has played pretty decent. They only gave up 20 points last week vs Missouri as 2 of their TDs were defensive. 2 weeks ago vs Bama Tua and those NFL WRs were pretty much unstoppable however, Carolina held Bama to their lowest rushing total in something like 4 or 5 years and only gave up 3 yards per rush. That's the only thing that would give me pause on this game.
Just thought I would add a little insight.
