Ok I am from Oregon and I loved the Chip kelly way of playing football, but after Chip layed his guns down in the College ranks and headed off to the pros, He still played his fast style but came under some fire for not giving his NFL defense time to rest. then the cry babies started mouthing off. LeSean McCoy labeled Chip a racist, interesting because Chip.s first year as NFL coach 19 of his newly drafted and trades was 96% black. he went to the playoffs his first year as NFC Eastern Division Championship in the pros. lost in the first round to New Orleans 26-24. then it was downhill ever since. all kinds of conflict occurred, Chips last year had a miserable 49er team. but it must be known Chip beat the best there was in the NFL he beat Tom Coughlin, Bill Belichick, beat the Cowboys on Thanksgiving day 33-10. and soon he had many NFL coaches even Bill Belichick inquiring about his "BLUR" Offence and to this day you see it run at times in a few NFL teams. Then Chip was gone. maybe Chip was a little headstrong in the NFL, who knows, but when he decided to come back to the College scene many colleges were wanting to talk to him. He ended up at UCLA. I noticed Chip didn't have the spunk like he did his first year at Oregon when I saw the interviews he had at UCLA and Chip dint seem himself, they ask him about his BLUR offense. and he would say "you know that can not stay around forever" and move on to another question. I honestly think Chip needed some time off, being put out of the NFL bruised his ego somewhat, and I honestly believe his mind wasn't the chip kelly mind he had for the love of the college game he once had, but as time passed and he slowly began to put the pieces together Chip has done a lot of reflection I'm sure, and his psyche began to heal and now after watching that game with LSU on Saturday the ole Chip looks like he is back, he was jumping up and down on sidelines and showing he is very much in the college game. I will be for UCLA many times this year Yes I love my Ducks but I honestly believe the TALENT level now is pretty much even between Oregon and UCLA and that being so, I must say UCLA has the better coach and that will be the difference in the PAC12 this year.

Character aside, I'm not his judge there, it does feel different with him and the Bruins this year.
DTR is finally looking like a kid who will play mostly up to his talent level. You mix that in with Kaz Allen, Zach Charbonnet, Brittain Brown, the TE, and Kyle Phillips. That offense should be good enough to challenge for the PAC title. Of course, as always, we'll see. It's a long season.
Defensively vs Hawaii and now LSU is the bigger surprise. They have more talent and experience this year than they've had in a while. But we need to see more. Hawaii was undermanned and LSU has major issues offensively and coaching-wise. They're a mess. Fresno will be a tough test. They're coached well.

I'm from Philly and defended Chip during his time here. All the racial-BS started with the Riley Cooper incident. People understandably wanted him gone, and the team was going to cut him until Michael Vick stepped in and pleaded with them to keep him and allow Cooper to redeem himself, just like the Eagles gave him a chance to do so after his legal troubles. Cooper went on to have a really good year, but did have a key drop in that playoff loss to the saints. The next incident was the "Desean Jackson is a gang member" crap which came from sports writer Elliot-Shor Parks who is pretty much the Eagles mouthpiece nowadays. Thing is, D-Jax did have connections to known gang members back in LA, but it wasn't unusual since he grew up around that stuff. The bigger issue, that didn't get attention locally or nationally was that people in Jackson's entourage were suspected drug & arms dealers operating out ofa house Jackson owned in South Philly about 5 minutes away from the LINC. It's always been rumored that disgraced DA Seth Williams knew about the activities and shut down any investigation due to his chummy relationship with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, yet at the same time advised Lurie to get rid of JAckson because something might (remember this was also during the days of Aaron Hernandez being charged with murder). Lurie wanting to protect the franchise's image did exactly that and the team abruptly released him stunning NFL fans everywhere. Lesean McCoy thrived in both years under Chip, but was in search of a new contract after the 2014 season. The Eagles collapsed at the end of that 2014 season, Foles seperated his shoulder, the o-line was beat up and Mark Sanchez also had his own arm problems and was ineffective. There was also a struggle between GM Howie Roseman and Chip for roster construction resulting in the two having a fallout and left Lurie having to decide between the two, because Chip threatened to resign if he had to deal with Howie any longer.
Chip traded McCoy to Buffalo and all hell broke loose. McCoy got his feelings hurt and insinuated to the media that Chip was a racist. Jackson echoed these sentiments along with fan favorite Brandon Boykin who had also recently been moved. It created a firestorm around the franchise and within the media. This was when "race and identity" was becoming one of the media's favorite subjects to talk about and further polarize. The scarlet "R" was on Chip's back and people revolted along with some of the players. He made a bunch of roster moves that made the team worse and his players were becoming less and less enthused with his offense. The 2015 season was a dumpster fire which culminated in him being fired before week 17 and Howie immediately being re-installed as GM.
I think the experience he had deeply effected him mentally even though he acted like it didn't get to him when he faced the press. It had to. The thing that mostly gets twisted in media thanks to people like Stephen A. Smith gaslighting sports fans, is that Chip got rid of Desean, but was responsible for keeping that racist Riley Cooper. Chip wasn't in charge of the roster during this time, it was Howie Roseman who was GM and made the roster moves. Chip and Howie's relationship soured during the 2014 draft where Chip wanted to trade up for Odell Beckham and was rebuffed by Howie who had final say and then wanted to again for Brandin Cooks, Howie instead traded back (which he likes to do) with Cleveland (who selected Manziel) and selected mega-bust Marcus Smith who barely ever saw the field. At that spot Chip wanted Jordan Matthews (who also was kind of a bust) but Howie assured him he'd be there in the 2nd round, which he was.

This is great timing, Chip beats USC and they fire Clay. Chip will get all the Cali talent while USC burns to the ground with another lame hire. UCLA is looking good right now.

BettingResource had a great coverage of UCLA team. Cashed them twice big. I don't know if they will back them again but they said if you ever see UCLA as underdog this year and if Chip is coaching, bet ucla and the points very big and also make a sizeable bet on moneyline. I am not sure if we will see ucla as a dog again this year...maybe in the road.

Agreed, Chip is a great coach and brilliant offensive mind, that just made MANY bad decisions in the past. At UCLA he decided to tear the program down, and start over - this must be taken into account IMO.
The impediment to action advances action - what stands in the way becomes the way.
