Their longest run of the night was 9 and rushed for like 60 yards total all game. Purdue can’t run clock because they can’t run.
Well you don't run when a team is begging you to throw every down blitzing over and over again either.. Diaz plays man press across the board every down and if Purdue QB could hit guys running free this wouldn't even be a discussion. Diaz will get toasted by good QB's and better teams though, which is why he never keeps a job coaching defense.

Clock is your friend with the lead and 6 minutes to go. You may not make a yard running but the clock is still going, for 40 seconds between plays. Penn State only gets 3 time-outs. If the 9 incomplete passes were runs instead, that gives you 6 plays x 40 seconds, 4 more minutes you could have run off the clock, and forced Penn State to use all their timeouts on the other 3 plays which would have used about another 15 seconds. They scored the go ahead TD with 47 seconds left. It's poor clock management, no getting around that.

I don't mind the passing, but if you only need 2 yards or 6 yards, you don't need to throw 20. It doesn't matter what the defense is doing. The longer you throw it, the more completion rate drops.
Purdue did almost zero screens, which are ideal for those situations.

yep you play small ball...run the clock and force penn st to call timeouts and when they get the ball back, they panick/rush to get plays in. With timeouts in their pockets, they played comfortable. Another thing it wouldve made them do was play for a fg instead of td with little to no time left which wouldve prolonged the game.

Purdue QB under threw the pass on 3rd down that would have been the game clincher 1st down or TD. WR did a double move and beat the Penn St DB badly. It was execution not bad play calling.

Not in 50+ years of football wagering have I seen anything like what I witnessed at the conclusion of this game. I'd like to hear what Bobby Dodd would have to say about it. Ha!
