I want to preface this statement with the fact that i had no $ invested in this game whatsoever.
If you missed what happened, here is the play by play
Hawaii 28-20
Colorado trying to move down field with no timeouts and time winding down. Colorado reciever catches a pass and is tackled with 10 seconds left. CU rushes to setup a spike/play with clock running down from 10 seconds. As the ref is trying to get the ball to the Ref who places in middle of fiel, a hawaii player innocently enough makes contact with the ball causing it to fumble around for 3-4 seconds while the ref scrambles to set it. The clock then expires and the game is over. Hawaii wins.
There needs to be a rule change here that once the refs handle the ball and contact by the defending team with the ball causes an automatic clock stoppage. Yes this was an innocent, freak play, but it still robbed Colorado a chance at winning the game. 10 Seconds is more than enough time to set a ball. Thats unacceptable to the players.

Receiver who caught the ball should have helped the ref set up. Instead he threw the ball to the sideline judge which created the fiasco. Also, Colorado burned 2 early timeouts almost back to back in 3rd quarter...came back to bite the team.

If you look at the replay again, the receiver that caught the ball was WALKING back to the line of scrimmage. Walking with 12 seconds left! The receiver down field was also WALKING back to left hash. There was no urgency as if they didn't know there 10-12 secs left
I blame CU coach for the early timeouts.

100% all the factors are true it shouldn't have came down to that. However at the same time, if a hawaii player makes contact witht he ball being set the clock should be stopped. Accidental or not.
