Arkansas would appear to have South Carolina right where it wants the Gamecocks. The Razorbacks have a high octane offense that can score in rapid-fire fashion and South Carolina has shown no signs it can keep up with a team such as this. The Gamecocks play outstanding defense but have no offense. The have scored a total of 29 points in their last three games. Arkansas has the ability to make this a shootout and that puts South Carolina in a big hole.
Smu -17.5 over Rice
SMU is back on the map and should have little trouble taking care of a Rice team that stands 0-8 and is getting blown out by everybody. The Mustangs played their best game of the season last week in winning 27-13 at Tulsa and one sensed the best is yet to come. It’s been a long time since SMU played a decent brand of football and I look for the Ponies to put it altogether for this homecoming crowd.
Kansas State + 3 over Kansas
When this season began, there is little doubt Kansas had the brighter future. Kansas State was coming off a bad season, was operating with a new coach, who had inherited a real mess, and appeared to be lucky if it won a game or two. But the new coach—Bill Snyder—had been at Kansas State before and had built the team into a national power. It is obvious he is on his way again. The Wildcats started slowly, were terrible early in the season, but stand 4-2 in their last six games and come into this off a 42-30 loss at Oklahoma. This is the one Kansas State wants to win and there is no reason to think the Wildcats won’t pull it off.
Utah -27 over New Mexico
By Utah standards, this is a subpar Utes team but it still is a very good squad that has lost only at Oregon, 31-24, and has the talent to destroy the worst New Mexico (0-8) team in the last 15 years. Utah is looking for a major bowl bid and knows it needs to win games such as this, with games at TCU and BYU still on the schedule. The figures say bettors can look for total domination from start to finish.
Penn State -4 over Ohio State Ohio State has covered as of late but struggled early and that was against bad teams you can't do that with Penn state also they have Iowa next week.
Tcu -24 over San Deigo State The BCS has forced TCU to run up the score and hope it can still get a major bowl bid.
Clemsome -8.5 over Florida State
The Tigers will host the contest after blowing out Division II opponent in Coastal Carolina last week 49-3. A week prior, the Tigers upset Miami in an overtime thriller and their recent success has resulted in some top 25 nominations from the pollsters. The Tigers offense is starting to come alive. Running back C.J. Spiller and WR Jacoby Ford are big play guys with lightening type speed. The Seminoles defense must pay attention to Spiller as he can make things happen where ever he lines up on the field. Ford has 440 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns and he may be the biggest asset this Saturday against the Seminoles secondary. Freshman QBKyletook advantage of a weak Miami pass defense throwing for 326 yards and 3 scores just two weeks ago and will get the chance to put up similar numbers against a Florida State secondary that ranks an embarrassing 97th in America allowing 246 yards per game.
The Seminoles will look for quarterback Christian Ponder to lead them to victory for the 3rd week in a row. The big question heading into their match-up with Clemson is will Ponder be at 100%. The Seminoles quarterback was beaten up last week and has bruised ribs even though he will still be the starter this weekend. It will be important that the Florida State offensive line protect Ponder from a tough defensive front out of Clemson and keep him from healthy.
Spiller and Ford will run wild in the Florida State secondary as Clemson wins convincing. Clemsome -8.5 over Florida State
Wake Forest/Georgia Tech Over 62.5 I have always though of Vandy as a defensive team but they scored big on Georgia Tech last week and I had Tech and couldn't believe they covered but becuase they can put up points they did. I don't see any reason why this won't be an offensive shootout this week either.
Alabama/Lsu under 40 The no. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide had the past week off and as you can imagine that just made the anticipation for this week's huge match-up with the no. 9 LSU Tigers go completely through the roof. In reality, this week's game between Alabama and LSU has everything on the line for both teams. LSU has the chance to derail Alabama's chance at their 2nd straight perfect regular season and also move ahead of them in the SEC West . However, even with Alabama being undefeated a loss to LSU this weekend would put the Tigers in control of making it to the SEC Championship as they would be tied with Alabama in the standing but hold the head to head tie breaker in the SEC West. Of course Alabama has National Championship dreams alive as well, but a loss this week would devastate hopes of both opportunities. The LSU Tigers path to a strong 7-1 start has looked ugly at times, but they remain one of the top teams in the country. Outside of a 10 point loss to Florida, LSU would be right with Alabama on the pursuit of perfection. The Tigers have struggled against some inferior teams this season, but have bounced back to find some confidence outscoring opponents in their previous two games 73-10. The Crimson Tide defense will put a lot of pressure on LSU QB Jordan Jefferson this week. Jefferson has some of the most talented wide outs in the conference to target in players like Terrance Toliver and Brandon LaFell. However the Crimson Tide defense gets in the backfield so fast, the Tigers may pass the ball on more of a need than want basis. Scott is not having the season LSU would have predicted with just 459 yards and 4 touchdowns, but if he can have a big day Saturday it will maximize the Tigers' chances of winning. The Tigers defense is plenty strong enough to keep the Tigers in the game. Alabama as stated before just has a brutal defense. The Crimson Tide rank 4th in the America holding teams to just 240 total yards per game. The defensive front is the best of the bunch ranking 2nd in rush defense holding opponents to just 65 yards per game and at the same time those guys have wreaked havoc in opposing backfield. The Crimson Tide are averaging right at 3 sacks per game, but even more affective than the sacks is the pressure those guys up front inflict on opposing quarterbacks. We have consistently seen the Alabama defense cause SEC quarterbacks to have their worse performances of the year and that is exactly what they will try to do with Jefferson this Saturday. In these big games Alabama don't score much neither does LSU it's hard to imagine which team will cover the spread the under is a safe bet.
