Bama's def scares me. I am a die hard LSU fan and I hate Bama with a passion when Nick Saban took over and turned Bama into a legacy. That should of been LSU, but that's a rant for a different post =)
Bama's def is always scary! That's how Nick Saban builds his teams. The biggest dudes up front and the fastest 7 in the back end. This is nothing new. I will say that this years def is more opportunistic with all the TD's they score, but what makes this bama team the best team in college football?
I'll argue that Saban had better teams in the past. Take last years team for example, that offense was way more balanced with Henry as the heisman trophy winner and Coker as an experienced pocket passer.
That brings me to this years offense. I think cutting Kiffin is being downplayed. Losing kiffin will be huge in this game. The arguement is that Steve has sat in on every meeting for the past 2 years and knows exactly how they want the offense to be ran.
Let's start with the fact that last years offense adn this years offense are two completely different offense first... so we can cut that 2 years down to 1 to be honest.
Secondly, just because you sit in on every meeting doesn't mean you are ready to start calling pressure plays during the biggest game of the year in college football. second string and third string qbs sits in on every quarterback meetings and they know exactly how the offense is supposed to be ran, but that doesn't mean that when game time gets there, they can run it just as good as the starting qb?
I know Clemson backers are using the revenge factor and the fact that Watkins has 1 year under his belt. Bama backers will argue that Watkins has regressed a bit this year with all the ints he has thrown.
You guys forget that Bama played the perfect game last year.
They had zero turnovers. Watkins did throw 1 int, so it's not like he was turnover free last year.
Bama needed an onside kick and a punt return for a td in the second half to finally break away.
Also, did you see how many huge plays bama had on offense last year? First score of the game was like a 60-70 yard scamper by Henry.
Cocker was hitting wide open wr's for huge plays due to broken coverage. I don't think Bama made a single mistake that game and played the perfect game and they still had to backdoor to cover the spread.
Yes Bo broke a long one against a Wash def that was so worn out at the end b/c their offense couldlnt stay on the field, but he is no Derrick Henry or mark Ingram. He's a poor mans version of Eddie lacy. A pounder.
Hurt is not capable of hitting all the big plays Coker was able to hit and I think that is the reason Clemson keeps this close. Watch out if Clemson is able to come out and score the first TD like Washington did. They won't slow down. Bama couldn't stop renfro last year, now they have bigger problems in dealing with what may be the best WR in college football, Mike Williams.
I got Clemson at -6.5 when my line released the line earlier in the week.
That's what I'm playing tonight.
