Trying to find a team outside of Georgia, Bama. Really liked Penn States D last year. Not really sure how they will be offensively. From a scheduling standpoint they go to Ohio State which i will assume is a L. Can they win out and get in cfb playoffs as maybe the 4?
took cowboys 20/1 for nfl
thanks!

Does Penn State have a shot??

I have done 0 research on PNST but they did have a great season.
Natty Champions need to do more though. I compare the lines as they have to accomplish so more to leap the big boys in the SEC.
Penn State needs to close the gap on the lines. Early season last year they only were small favorites to Purdue and Auburn and were +7 to Michigan and +15.5 to OSU.
They are getting not a lot respect from the books on those lines.
30-1 is respectful but none the less from the looks at it from my eyes they need to make at least one more step and not only get more respect on their line and also win all the games.
Penn State could be the second best BIG10 team this year but until OSU losses more than 1 game its going to be difficult to get in the playoff.
Nothing is ever in the bank until it is in the bank

Drew Allar’s Blindside of the line is young. Watching him in the spring training game let me know I gotta be carefully patient with him.
Realistically speaking, Ohio st has been under the radar. We clearly haven’t surpass them but I expect the line to be ethical this time around. Maybe a strong +8 at Ohio st.
It all depends on the passing game Allar gives us. We haven’t had this type of QB stature since Hackenberg. Really pump for this season!

Strong D, fantastic rb tandem……just can they beat ohio state & michigan, i would say no not both but 1 certainly isn’t out of the question. If they take care of everyone else, they certainly could have an outside shot of being in cfb playoffs. At 30/1 i may need to bite…..Then again its probably just wasteful as im guessing they would be 4 seed at best & wouldn’t stand a chance vs a bama/uga.

Ohio State game will up in the air. Ohio St corners are relatively young. The Davison Igbinosun addition adds risky talent. Like I said, it all depends if Allar gives his receivers a chance.
Adisa, Abdul, and Reed are most likely turning pro after this year. I wouldn’t be surprise if our strength (Which has been the defense for the last 3-4 years) starts to shift towards the offense after this upcoming season.
Im still upset we scheduled our white out game for IOWA early in the season. Michigan will get a stripe out game which isn’t all that bad. I just feel the white out game brings out the toxicity for the road squad.
We aren’t letting Blake Corum run crazy again, especially at our crib. I feel we win this game. Michigan also made risky changes at the oline position. Ohio St is the only game that worries me.
Maryland will be a tease like usual. They are much older now and brought in keys additions from the portal. This will be Allar’s first true road game victory right before Michigan….. Possible to make up for a bad potential Ohio St game.
Either way, we are fully capable of only losing one game this year. With USC and UCLA coming into the conference, tons of talented players will want part of this conference. This will be the last year we have a somewhat easy schedule. I expect Michigan St, Indiana, and a couple other lowly squads to get nice recruits and/or transfers.

The backups on the OL might be starters at more than half of the other B1G schools. The depth on this Michigan team is insane. If UGA hadn’t won back to back titles I’d rank Michigan preseason #1.

Well, I'll say this, don't let Michigan's beatdown of Penn State last year affect your capping this year. In 2018, 19, 21, and 22 the Lions performed poorly after a bye and played Wolvs last yr after a bye. (Left out COVID yr.) (And they had what amounts to two byes in 19 trouncing Maryland after the first one, losing to Sparty as a fav in the next one)
This years Lion's play UMass after bye. Lucky them.
So I believe they laid an egg while Michigan played a solid game.
Not really sure where the risky changes are?????

@ToddC Michigan made risky changes at the O-line position? Please explain.
Both incoming transfers LaDarius Henderson and Drake Nugent are coming from the lowly trenches of the Pac-12. Chemistry will be a thing and also, can they handle PSU and Ohio St D line?? Reasons why I say it's risky.
Blake Corum relied heavily on big gap openings last season. He's not all that to me.

What Michigan did to Penn St last year was one of the most dominant performances I’ve watched in person at the college level. That score was a total fluke and it was what, 41-17? At one point in the 1H first downs were like 18-1 Michigan and Penn st was ahead 14-13 lol.
I’d expect it’ll be a good game this year, tough place to play in Happy Valley. When Michigan is good, James Franklin is rarely ever competitive in Ann Arbor so the result wasn’t that surprising. I remember on here trying to talk everyone off PSU +6.5 for that reason alone. Allar came in last year and looked pretty bad. PSU has awesome RBs but will need a pretty large step forward from the QB and OL positions to get closer to a title in the B1G East imo.
Probably the game I’m most worried about for Michigan though just given the location and how good PSu typically is as a small home dog (+2.5 preseason line).
Will need to be a complete game though bc man this ‘23 UM team is rock solid top to bottom. Kind of an odd take on Corum as well, wherever the guy gets hit he’s probably grinding out 3 additional yards every time. Can’t forget about #7 & QB play thst I expect to be even better than it was a year ago… which was pretty dang good.
im ready for some football!!!

Well, I don't see bringing in extra bodies as risky changes, even if they did come from "lowly trenches". The center positon was a big void and now is better but of course not as good as last year's guy.
Had Penn St on my ready to fade list last year. Very thin on O-line, if one or more sustained injury they would have been in trouble. Didn't happen. This year oline does look better.
Ohio St is interesting. After watching spring ball cannot decide if oline is really that bad or is Knowles defense getting that good?

Any running back should be able to do this. I think a retired marine war veteran could do this in the NFL.
My think about Corum is that he’s not elusive enough and I haven’t seen him turn “nothing into something”. The play has to have a nice beginning development within the o line for him to do anything. He’s not special.

Not elusive enough? The first linebacker taken in this years NFL draft was Iowa's Jack Campbell. Watch what Corum does to Jack (#31) when they meet headon in open field.
Sure helps to have a great offensive line and good coaching to create big holes. Yet Corum displays a low center of gravity combined with vison, speed, strength, and a great sidestep. No Barry Sanders but a damn good running back.

These Highlights prove my point. Just nice blocking by Michigan’s O-Line that season. Notice how against Maryland, the commentators keeps saying “Blake with a Lane”. Any running back can do this. I never said Blake sucked. I just think last season Michigan had the best blocking techniques they’ve ever had in years and Blake got all the praise for it. Let’s see if they can provide lanes for Blake again.

Franklin screwed up by not letting Allar play more last year and letting him get more experience, still think they are very good, but will probably have a similar 10-2 season with a big bowl
