How???
@vietguy
That’s the downside of the playoff format. They won their conference so got an automatic bye and top four seed. If you thought they were a top 4 team then that’s on you.

NEVER look at a 'ranking' to see how good a team is anyway
>> Always use Vegas style with some predictive value - forget Sagarin or Massey except for FCS
SP+ - #39
Collin Wilson (AN) - #30
ESPN FPI (not bad) - #21
FEI (bcftoys) - #13
Kelley Ford (not bad at all) - #21
If you wanna check the pirated newsletters at the RR - Brad Powers numbers are great (#30) - Kenny White's (ML's Playbook), and Gold Sheet.
That's about 8 sources better than any silly ranking.
*SP+ is not useful when a team has experienced a huge change from the previous year - otherwise great. Here ASU is better that #39 - for some reason his algo. lags behind

It's like NFL you win division you are top 4 seed
It just sets up better match ups
Hindsight you can say
Boise
Arizona St
SMU
Clemson
Shouldn't be there but that means Conference championship games become meaningless
