Stanford's Downfall Nobody Seems to be Talking About...

The first possession of the overtime period itself.

Forget the 4th down missed kick, forget the missed kick to end regulation.

You have Peyton Manning III under center in overtime (a superstar playmaker's chance to shine) and you come out running the ball against a stacked box on two straight downs?  

Stanford has a remarkable offensive line, but they are not holding up 7-8 guys running on pure adrenaline in overtime.  You put the ball in Luck's hands on every down outside of the 10-yard line in that period.  

Not to mention, that false start on 2nd and 5 might have been the worst 5-yards lost in any bowl game I have seen this year.

First off, let me stop myself before I discuss more about the art and idea behind a forum in which topics of related variety are discussed freely between posters.  Now, let me defend what I said.

One run is fine.  I loved the 1st and 10 run up the middle.  You gain five yards and you set yourself up for better options with a shortened field.  But then you get a false start call on 2nd.  Now you got 2nd and 10 and a stacked box.  Why would you run the ball again?  Why not give Luck two options before you have  to make a worthless 1 of 3 kicker take a long shot?

Before you apply more words that I never wrote "THAT'S why the team lost," that-conservative playcalling- was a major contributor to failing on that overtime possession.

 I agree......after the false start (they had the same power play going) they shoul've optioned out when seeing 8-9 up........after the stop...........osu fell back into qtrs which made it tough to get 10 yds in/near RZ.

 But the op was there to win.......dont risk a to.......kick the winning fg..............didn't work out

Announcers kept saying all game how Luck could audible out of plays if he noticed 8-9 guys playing the box. If anyone's to blame, it's Peyton Manning III

how did the kicker miss a 35 yard fg to end the game is what bothers me... they should just go for it on fourth next time. better chance of scoring let alone get the first down

Yep I never understood that, why did they try to keep running the damn ball in OT?  I didn't get that shit at all.  Stanford didn't even try to get the ball down the field in Overtime.  I had Stanford ML, and I knew I was fucked when I saw that conservative play calling.  OK State went for the throat in overtime, and we see what happened.

Didn't surprise me.  OK St. couldn't stop the Stanford running game all night.  I even had Stanford.  The FG kicker missing the chippie is what bugged me.

Down the field in OT? They start on the 25.......

 Neither team was perfect.........hell, why didn't OSU just blow Stanford out? They thought they should've been in the BCSMCG.

I agree, the first two possessions were aggravating, but that was easily salvaged by a pick on OK St's very first snap, and no score from them until Stanford got on the board first as well. 

Overtime play calling killed me.  A lot of things killed me in this game.  But now at least I know, none of what we're talking about put a total of 1,050 in my pocket tonight.
