Do we know that Tech will be the same ole 80 play a game on offense team? I tend to think so but I am not sure what we can expect from a coach who is essentially unknown.

I think you are right. But I guess I am asking if that was kingsbury's offense or more of summlin's offense (he did similar things at houston). And more importantly were play calls more dictated by having a major playmaker at QB?

Kingsbury was the OC at Houston when Sumlin was there also. I suspect the decline and fall of TAMU this Fall, if it happens, will be have a lot to do with the absence of KK.

The only issue here is the SMU offense......as Wahoo said......
WHY?....Jones has brought in Air-Raid guy Hal Mumme to help Gilbert and the passing game....one of the worst in CUSA LY (somehow)...> Jones is a Run-N-Shoot guy....the only one left in CFB I believe
How much influence he will have is tough to say... *you would think a lot...otherwise he wouldn't have hired him.....so we can guess they will throw more.....and play faster at times for sure...
problem?.....maybe *they essentially have 4 OC's....(Jones the play-caller .....Morrison and Phillips co-OC's....and Mumme)
SO......they could be worse initially....or much better *one of the differences in the 2 offenses (Run-N-Shoot vs Air-Raid) is that in the RS the receivers read the coverage...and adjust their routes accordingly...(termed 'sight reading') in the AR the routes are called....with only minor adjustments by the WR... *the problem of course....is that QB must make the same read.....or you get the dreaded....."who TF is he throwing to?"......
So I would think Mumme simplifies things here.....and we see a much improved passing game ......at some point in the season.....week 1?
For sure both coaches will stress OFFENSE here......so the OVER is worth a look.....
BTW....this is what Jim Harbaugh did at SF... *to help Alex Smith and his young WR..... he eliminated that 'sight reading' crap.....calling the routes and building in a 'safety-valve' or check-down on every pass play.....> no need to audible in case of a blitz...
a great D helped sure...but Smith was MUCH better that next year for sure....SF went from 6-10 to 10-4 *we (could) see that change in Gilbert here

For what its worth, June Jones was interviewed on a local radio show here in Hawaii and talked about how he wants to implement more running in the offense this year. Also mentioned that he thinks he has the OLine to do it. Will he? Guess is as good as mine which is why I said "for what its worth." Coaches do bullshit every now and then, who knows.

still waiting on GG to play up to his potential, even if he plays as his average self, I think this has got a decent shot of going over. Good luck this season man

he is FOS for sure......and doing a crappy job really *peaked in 2009.....VERY few moments since
*pissed at lack of community support and a reluctance of SMU administration to loosen academic requirements....he sits on his azz during recruiting season......sends assistants where other HC's show up.....been trying to leave for 2-3 years......neither Maryland or Ariz St wanted him....
now after losing most of his OL.....only 2/5 and 29 starts back... plus losing the 2nd leading rusher in school history.......AND bringing in one of the greatest passing game innovators in CFB history .......time to RUN it........okey dokey
last year 400 runs / 516 passes... *his dynamic O ranked #93 or so....vs extremely weak D's....passing game #114 at 5.9/att.....PR #117

Kingsbury has said multiple times he wants to have the fastest offense in college football. Tech will be the same tech you would expect to see. Scoring a lot of points and giving up a lot too.
I would be more worried about the offense clicking in the first game, but all signs point to techs offense being one of the top in the country.
That being said I don't bet totals often, but will probably be on tech in this one. Another factor some wont realize is even tho the game is at smu it will be a very pro tech crowd.

Do we know that Tech will be the same ole 80 play a game on offense team? I tend to think so but I am not sure what we can expect from a coach who is essentially unknown.
Kingsbury was the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M last season, so I think we have a very good idea of what he's going to do. Moreover, that is the very reason he was hired for the Texas Tech job.

but far more often looked like a heap of garbage. it's a huge knock against gilbert for june jones, of all people, to want to emphasize the run more at smu this year.. even more so after the loss of zach line. i know jones is very high on his new JUCO back, but still.
this game stinks and i wouldn't even think of playing it unless there's some great value in a 2H play.

that Juco Tr Traylon Sheed, originally signed with Texas as a 4 star back. He is from a small school in Texas. He could not break into the 2 Deep at Texas, so he transferred. He is a good one.

I see a shootout in this game. not much D. I scoring. I give Tech a slight advantage, but the game is at SMU, so anything could happen. The only in this game, in my opinion is the over or nothing. NP for me. GL

yep, jones is saying he's the best back he's ever had.. we'll see. despite that, i still think this is more of a slight towards gilbert when jones talks about this gameplan to run more.
it's also smart though by jones (if shead can produce right away) because it'll help keep his defense off the field by grinding clock. smu has been horrific against the pass for a while now.
if you're an smu fan though, you better hope jones doesn't overwork shead like he did with zach line, who came down with that nasty turf toe and ultimately went undrafted.
