All,
I enjoy college football, although I don’t get to see as many games as I did in the past. Here are some general ramblings on things I saw during the first full week. Did you see something interesting? If so, drop it here. Discussion welcome.
1. Alabama-Florida State: Crimson Tide still
dominant on offense, but passing game must improve. No idea how they miss that pass interference
before the half. With that said, Bama still a level above Florida State. Fitzpatrick
may be best player in college football. Seminoles’ season now hinges on
Francois injury. Never really thought of
FSU as title contender entering season
2.
USC: While it’s only the opener, they were really pushed against Western
Michigan before waking up. Can see
Trojans slipping somewhere in next four weeks.
Great thing of weekend was USC using blind snapper for extra point.
3.
Texas: What more is their to say. Tom
Herman will eventually right the ship but there is still tons of work to be
done in Austin.
4.
Florida: Suspensions or not, Gators still don’t
show up in big games under McElwain. You’re
facing a revamped Michigan D and rush for 11 yards? Don’t care if your top RB
was suspended.
5.
Teams of the WEAK: UNLV loses as 45-point favorite to Howard,
which featured Cam Newton’s brother going absolutely wild. Tough debut for Matt Rhule as Baylor shows it still
has no D in allowing 48 points to Liberty.
6.
Missouri: Fans have reason to be excited about
offense. However, calm down as your D gave
up 43 points to Missouri State, including 35 in the first half.
7.
Boston College: Despite winning at Northern Illinois, that Eagles offense is still a
complete mess. Addazio will be gone after this season.
8.
Wisconsin:
Badgers atoned for pitiful first half by outscoring Utah State 49-0
after the break.
9.
Army: Love the Black Knights. Don’t complete a pass and rush for 513 yards.
10.
Colorado State-Colorado: Didn’t see this one,
but everything I read points to some shady officiating that favored the Buffs.
11.
Louisville: Jackson continues to put up video game numbers. Something still seem off with Cardinals.
12.
South Carolina: Gamecocks going to surprise this season. Nice win over NC State. Interested in next week's game against Missouri.
13.
Notre Dame: Before everyone goes wild that Irish
are back, let’s see how they do against Georgia. Temple is in rebuilding year.
14.
Vanderbilt won’t be bottom-feeder in SEC. Nice
road win at Middle Tennessee. But that’s what you’re supposed to do as an SEC
team.
15.
Nebraska: You survived a dangerous Arkansas
State team. D needs work, giving up 32
first downs and nearly 500 total yards. Plenty of points next week when Huskers face
Oregon.
TTThanks for taking the time to read.
