I could see them winning outright. They have the motivation playing in a new conference with a new coach. Cal is breaking in a new offensive system and it's just hard to lay chalk with them on the road. The Texas heat in early September isn't something I think Cal will be used to either.
I looked long and hard at this game too. Cal laying close to double digits on the road definitely makes you think. Haven’t locked anything in yet but I do respect Justin Wilcox as a HC. They return 17 starters from a team that had some sneaky good performances last year vs teams like Notre Dame & USC. Sam Jackson at QB with Spavitol back as OC may get things going.
North Texas returns 15 starters but they are transitioning to a 3-3-5 defense which will take some time to learn. Don’t love their ULM transfer QB but their running back room is loaded. I’ll probably end up staying off this game because of all the unknowns but I’ll be watching closely to see if there’s value on NT vs FIU or Cal vs Auburn the following weeks.

Been capping this game for awhile. NT fired their coach and have a new system . NT has new qb but all its rb;s are back. They are installing a new offense and new coach Morris from Incarnate Word. Now 2 years ago I saw Incarnate Word destroy Texas St with Caramon Ward at qb [ he is at Wash St now } But anyone that has ever seen Ward throw could win taking him . He has a great year at Wsh St and I put some small money on him to win the Heisman So not sure if Morris the new coach is great or because he had a great qb . Was really disappointed NT fired Litrell . Cal played ND,USC,UCLA tough last year but also is putting in a new scheme on offense. Cal has a new qb and the coach at Texas St who was fired Spitval is the new off coord of Cal . So he knows Morris's offense better then anyone since he lost 42-34 to them. But again they had one of the most underrated qb in the country in Ward. Cal -9 at 1st I thought a PAC 10 school vs North Texas But its in Denton in early september. A few years ago Cal beat NT in Cal 23-17. Think -9 might be a lot but going to wait another week or two before I commit. If the Texas heat continues and the weathermen in Texas is now calling it a " heat dome" maybe those Bears will start panting and tire out. Back next week for another update. Nt does return 8 starters and they did score but new Qb is not impressive from UL Monroe
