who won the last time these two teams played...yes,in 2010 a Schiano coached Rutgers team lost at home as a 17 point favorite to Tulane 14-17...does that not scare anyone a little bit...granted, tulane has a new coach, but so does rutgers (promotion)...

does anyone know the circumstances on why Rutgers choked in 2010 against a Tulane team that ended up going 4-8 for the season? I like Rutgers as well, but I think we need to figure out exactly why...Tulane's Orleans Darka has NFL 4-7 rounds potential. Griffin is a respectable QB and Tulane returns its top 4 WR's and top 4 tacklers...though Tulane is 8-22 ATS the last 5 years...

P Steele has it capped at Rutgers -29...I think the spread will be around Rutgers -25...

corley - do you think this good be a revenge spot for 2010...to clarify above tulane is 8-22 ATS at home in the Superdome the last 5 years...if the spread is Rutgers -18 and under, I will be on Rutgers...

I don&#x27;t necessarily think there will be a revenge factor... but I believe they will remember that loss... assassin is right tho... Tulane does have a pretty good QB and RB... and this isn&#x27;t a spot that Rutgers is used toBut I believe the Rutgers D will be the difference... and I don&#x27;t think Tulane will stop them

i think tulane will be better than most think. not quite to a bowl level yet, but unless the bookies adjust their streak of 7 consecutive losing seasons (against the spread, 9 losing seasons consecutively SU) should come to a close,

big travel for rutgers, and here is something interesting, in thier last 4 season opening games (against real D-1A opponents, ) Rutgers is 1-3 ATS and the three loses as favorites havent even been close.

- 2008 Fresno state at home -3; LOSE 7-24 NO COVER

- 2009 Cincinatti at home -4; LOSE 15-47 NO COVER

-2010 @ FIU -16; WIN 19-14 NO COVER

-2011 @ North Carolina +10; LOSE 22-24, COVER

i will be looking at tulane ATS situationally all year.

Tulane, like Rutgers, has a new HC... They bring back 4 year starting QB, Ryan Griffin, to lead their offense... He completed 56% of his passes last year for 2502 yds 13 TD's and 10 INT's... He is experienced and has a good group of WR's to get the ball... However, HC Curtis Johnson, is very high on true frosh, Devin Powell. Johnson compares him to Vick. So if Griffin struggles out of the gate, Tulane could be starting a QB with zero collegiate experience.

Tulane also brings back their top 2 leading rushers from a year ago. But they rely heavily on Orleans Darkwa, who gets the majority of the carries. Darkwa was 76 yds shy of reaching the 1000 yd mark last year. Tulane really needs him to stay healthy.

At WR, Tulane brings back a pretty solid group. They return their top 4 WR's from last year and return their best WR from 2 years ago, Ryan Grant. Grant got hurt in the first game last year and was out for the year. This should be a good group this year.

Tulane's biggest issue on offense is their O-Line. They return only 2 returning starters and only have 50 career starts. This looks like a pretty big issue going up against an experienced D like Rutgers'.

All in all, I'd say Tulane's offensive numbers should improve from last year with experience at the skill positions, but last year's numbers were anything less than average. 98th in Total Off, 71st in Pass Off, 86th in Rush Off, and 105th in Scoring Off.

Tulane defensively should be pretty decent, for Tulane. But their biggest issue, like on the offensive side of the ball, is their D-Line. They return only 1 starter from last year. Last year Tulane recored 27 sacks, don't know if they quite reach that number this year.

The strength of the D will be at LB. Their top 2 tacklers from last year are in the LB corps and this unit should improve on where they left off. Tulane will really need this unit to be the anchor on D and they will be heavily relied on.

Tulane deepest unit on D is the secondary. They have 7 returning, including last year's leader in INT's, Ryan Travis (4). This is a more experienced group, but it's tough playing coverage in the pass happy CUSA.

Overall, I don't see Tulane stopping Rutgers, or a lot of teams for that matter. They will need to get pressure on opposing QB's and stopping the run and that looks to me like their biggest problems.

Rutgers returns 2 QB's that put up very similar numbers last year. Dodd threw for 1574 yds 10 TDs and 7 INTs. Nova threw for 1553 11 TDs and 9 INTs. Nova is the bigger of the 2 QB's and probably will start the season IMHO. But either way, Rutgers will have an experienced QB who knows the offense.

Rutgers brings back their top 3 rushers from last year, including leading rusher, Jawan Jamison, who rushed for just short of 900 yds and 9 TDs last year. However, Savon Huggins, who was a VHT RB recruit is expected to be the starter. If Huggins lives up to the hype, then Rutgers will have a very nice stable of RBs and should improve on last year's number.

The WR corps loses their biggest asset in Sanu, but return 3 of their top 4 WR's and this unit should be one of the best in the Big East. Brandon Coleman will be the leader and he is 6'6 220lbs. Tulane's tallest DB is 6'1. Rutgers other projected starters are 6'3 and 6'4. I see a big advantage here.

On the O-Line, Rutgers returns 2 starters, 43 career starts. But they pick up MD transfer, RJ Dill, who has 33 career starts, and pick up some VHT O-Line recruits. If this group gels, the Rutgers offense could be one of the best in the Big East.

Rutgers on offense has the potential to be a lot better than last year's squad. However, that isn't saying much. Rutgers was 99th in Total Off, 52nd in Pass Off, 112th in Rush Off, and 65th in Scoring Off. Rutgers will have to become more balanced this year, which means getting more from the rushing attack and they have the backs to do it. They need their O-Line to gain some chemistry and fast.

I really don't need to get into too much depth about Rutgers on D. They return 16 of their top 20 tacklers from last year's squad that ranked 12th in Total D. Their biggest strength last year was their Pass D, which ranked 9th. 7 of their top 8 DB' return, and this could be a problem for Tulane. The Rutgers D should have a pretty good day against an inferior opponent. As stated earlier, if they get to Griffin or force him into some TO's early, they could be going after a true frosh QB.

i think with the unknowns in this matchup, the spread is going to be lower than expected (lower than p steele power rating of rutgers -29). if rutgers has a good game, with tulane's completely new systems, and rutgers shutdown d, and if the spread is under 20, i think rutgers is a good play. i think the books and bettors will have the same issues with rutgers that we have here. there is virtually no home field advantage (they averaged 19K at home in 2011).

in summary, if this game opens at rutgers -19 or less, i may jump on it... glta
