I think its important to consider what underdog has a legitimate chance of showing up and playing one of their best games.. but also looking into what favorites might fall apart...
A few things that I consider: How have both teams performed over the past 2-3 weeks, are either teams in a look ahead spot, I prefer underdogs playing at home, is this a rivalry game/ big conference game, how have previous match ups between these two teams looked like? What are the weather conditions, what is the atmosphere going to be like? It's a much bigger advantage to play at home in a night game on prime time tv when there are 70,000 people there compared to a mac home team where only a couple thousand people are in the stands...
One game that fits this circumstance is Ohio State VS Michigan State... Michigan State has actually played pretty well the past 2 weeks, (beat Rutgers 49-0, and lost to Michigan by 12 pts), They have a true home field advantage, as there will be 70,000 fans there rooting for Sparty, they also have Ohio State in a good spot, they're coming in off a 62-3 dismantling of Maryland, and have their biggest game of the season next week vs Michigan.., Michigan State has covered 3 of the last 5 meetings, and won SU as 16.5 point dogs in Colombus last year. MSU won that game with their back up QB, who will be starting again.
Ultimately I dont know if I can play Michigan State.. Ohio State has looked great since their loss to Penn State. Last years Ohio State team was better, but lost SU against Michigan State keeping them out of the CFB playoffs. Ohio State has a revenge angle here which makes me pause..,
Other games that meet similar criteria: USC @UCLA, Florida @ LSU, SDST @ Wyoming, OKST @ TCU, Oklahoma @ WVU, Northwestern @ Minnesota, Miami @ NC ST, VTECH @ ND...
