#1 pick who would you take?

Got my draft in 2 weeks on mlb.com. I won it last year even though my first pick was Jose Reyes

We just got our draft order and I got the #1 pick. Of course Pujols is the clear favorite but for some reason I'm leaning towards Hanley. Reasons why:

1. Position. Shortstop is so thin this year. There are so many solid 1st basemen I can just wait for another.

2. Speed vs. Power. Speed has more value then power. Hanley can easily do both. 30 HR's and 30+ steals is not out of the question.

3. Pujols had surgery this offseason. I'm sure it's not a big deal but it makes me wonder if his elbow/shoulder will hold up the full season. I don't want my first pick to go down AGAIN.

So tell me covers, what would you do with the first pick? Take the #1 shortstop and grab a 1st baseman later, or take the #1 point scorer in all of fantasy?

hanley makes sense with your approach...pujols is the man though

i hear ya on the first pick its so much pressure to make sure your guy isnt a bust...pujols is the correct pick imo but hey its your team...get your power from someone else and use SS for stolen bases(alcides escobar-everth cabrera)...billy butler is going kinda late and he could have a monster year

UConn34: Thanks for your insight. I like Pujols a lot too. If I pick him I can see either Rollins or Tulo falling to me in the end of the 2nd.

DOVJAK: That's the best part of fantasy, maxing out trade value! Last year I traded Jason Bay when he was lighting it up for A-Rod who was out. I think that's what ultimately won the league for me.

houguy28: Just my thoughts don't take it to heart but I would never pick an outfielder in the first round. Great example is Sizemore last year. There are SO many outfielders and when you grab someone like Braun, your missing out on a player just as good at a thinner position. No question I would go A-Rod 3rd.  GL

My draft is Saturday but I'm already sold on my #1 overall pick:

MR. ALBERT PUJOLS 

Fantasy-wise Pujols is in a tier of his own. He consistently puts up monster years and has yet to miss more then 15 games in a season. Talk about reliable. I like Hanley a lot too but thinking about who I'd get in the 2nd and 3rd round after him I don't like as much. Here's my thinking:

Pick Hanley: All top-tier 1st basemen will be gone, so I'll have to take a 2nd tier 1st baseman (Gonzales, Reynolds, Sandoval) early, or wait later hoping for a sleeper.  

Pick Pujols: I can wait to get Jeter, Rollins, Tulowitski or Reyes which is not a huge step down from Hanley.

I'll let you guys know how my draft goes. Can't wait for Baseball Season! 

i use as many 1st basemen as possible. so pujols would be my pick. i get my 1b, 3b, corner infielder, and my utility player which is always a 1st baseman early in the draft. youll be struggling to get big bats by the 6th round if you take ramirez. then around the 14th youll notice your outfield is gonna steal more bases than youll ever need. all that said ramirez obviously wouldnt be a stupid pick either. id rather have a later pick.
