Daily Fantasy Golf Strategy - John Deere Classic
Closing the loop on last week's plays, I gave out 9 plays of various salary ranges, and 100% of them made the cut and were playing on Sunday which is a pretty impressive feat, although the final standings were a bit more varied. In total, we brought you Bradley and Hurley III (T4), Holmes (T23), Kirk (T45), Na and Howell III (T52), De Jonge and Hearn (T64) and Woodland who made the cut but finished 72nd.
If you're interested in digging into our research and building your own projections, I'm offering a discount on our downloadable spreadsheet for just $3.99 here. This offers a comprehensive overview of player pricing, statistics, recent results and prior results at the John Deere. It's an excellent resource to create your own projections and player selections.
Similarly, I'm excited to offer an opportunity for new DFS users building up to the British Open. Any new users who signs up to play with us on Draftstreet between 7/8 and the 7/16 will be eligible to participate. Simply put, sign up, receive a 100% deposit bonus, let us know your username, and be eligible to share in our winnings! I have 5 bullets into the $22 contest paying out $15,000 for first place, and any new users will be eligible to receive winnings related to one of our lineups that I will post prior to the tournament next week.
This week we head to the John Deere Classic which is another one of the easiest courses on the tour, despite what many would consider a sub-par field consisting of just a handful of household names. With many top golfers either taking the week off or warming up at the Scottish Open, there are only 8 of the top 50 players in the world in the tournament. In addition to offshore odds, recent form and tournament history, we'll also be looking at players with well rounded stats, with Drive Accuracy and Save % probably not being critical factors on an easier course. It's fairly similar course to last week's and you may recognize some names.
Jordan Spieth, Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson are elite plays this week and favored nearly 2x of the next closest golfers. They have 5 wins, 5 additional Top 10's, and 2 additional cuts made in 12 collective performances here. Steve Stricker specifically has not missed a cut in 32 events! They can be rostered with confidence where you can afford them. On to our other plays:
- Ryan Moore - Just outside of the top tier, Ryan Moore is a player I feel confident in rostering. Coming off of 2 weeks of rest after a T5 at the Travelers, he has a decent pedigree at the John Deere with an 8 and 22 the last two years.
- Charles Howell III - Not sure what it takes for him to be priced as an elite player, but apparently 23 starts, 20 cuts, and 6 top 10's isn't enough to earn respect. He also is one of the longest players in the field with high GIR, and a birdie buster with 5 consecutive cuts. Roster him with confidence in all formats.
- Kevin Na - A familiar name from last week, Na couldn't quite pull it together last week finishing tied for 52nd. He has no history here, but continues to excel in overall statistics and is ranked 4th with 26% of starts in the Top 10. Might be a GPP only play for me.
- Chris Kirk - He's almost a must play for me in 50/50's with 22 consecutive cuts made and 3 top 30's at this course the last 3 years. He may not produce a high % of Top 10's but he's as steady as they come.
- Stewart Cink - Another guy who churns out cuts with 10 consecutive, the only red flags on Cink are his performance at this course in 2 attempts. Unlikely to put up large numbers, he's still a cheap player that may let you afford some of the elite.
Sleepers to help you afford the guns
- Tim Wilkinson - Don't know a ton about the player but he caught my eye with with 6 consecutive cuts and 71% on the year and 2 Top 10's. He's also a bit mis priced compared to his odds to crack the Top 5.
- JJ Henry - This is a bit of a flyer, but JJ Henry has 5 consecutive cuts at John Deere, with a 5, 7, 13, 56 and 62. He's a top 35 driver in the field and ranked 3rd in GIR %. Not sure I'm confident in 50/50's but may roll the dice in GPP's to roster some of the top 3.
- Brice Garrett - OK this is as low as I can go. But what if I told you that you'd could get a golfer with 20+ starts that was in the top 25 in made cut %, for just $5900? Also in the Top 50 for GIR, Putting, Driving Distance...
- Will Mackenzie - This is not for the feint of heart given horrid recent form, BUT he has the highest top 10% out of cuts made, cracking the top 10 45% of his made cuts. He could bust your lineup, but that's an elite stat.
