This is rather lengthy but hope there are some other commissioners or players here that can offer some advice.
I am the commissioner of a 12 team league for the past 33 years!
One team owner has been in for 23 years and a majority of the other owners want him OUT of the league. He is always at the center of controversies over questionable trades, making absurd trade offers to take advantage of the less savvy, or new, owners. and bending rules to his advantage whenever possible. "You can't trust Bob" is what you hear from other owners for years. If he introduces new rules for voting, others vote NO automatically - they figure he already has a motive for using the rule to his benefit. Lastly, he is always the last to pay his league fees at the end of the season, once telling me he had to wait till he received his tax return!
But this past year he hit a new low. I had granted him commissioner access in our CBS League as he had been a help to me on technical issues when we first took the League online 20 years ago and he could cover for me while on vacations etc. Well, this year he instead used his commissioner privilieges to VETO his own trade with another owner because he got a better offer from another team. He agreed with owner A on the first trade and put it thru to ME for approval, but before I even saw it, he used his otherwise illegal commissioner access to veto it himself and substitute it with a trade agreement with owner B. I only saw the second trade and approved it. As commish, I was ready to bring this entire controversy to the forefront but owner A (who didn't want to cause me added stress) said "dont worry about it, no big deal, let it go." So I let the second trade go through, and chewed out Bob privately...enough to get an apology and withdraw his commissioner privileges but otherwise didn't publicize the action.
But a few weeks later it came out near end of season. Several want me to throw him out as this was just another in a long line of crap he has dished out. I want to respect Bobs 23 years in the league... he is 70 years old now, but also feel I must respect majority opinion of the other owners. If they truly want him out, I've asked for, and they intend to write, a petition for his removal from the league next year. He would not be invited back. Thanks for reading this long story.
Appreciate any thoughts on this , including ways you may have expelled members of your Fantasy League under similar circumstances?
