POSITION SCARCITY - FANTASY BASEBALL OPINIONS WANTED

Question

have done very, very well over the last 12&#x2B; years of fantasy baseball.  one of my biggest strategies is taking advantage of top-heavy postions.  this year i personally think that shortstop and catcher are the 2 most top heavy postions.  anyone else have a thought on this, and what are your top 3 top heavy postions??

i dont agree with C being top heavy....there are a ton af avg C out there.....&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;IMO ..i think SS and 2b is where u would want/need to get one of the big boys

standard (5x5) 14 team league....5 starting pitchers and 2 relief pitchers..along with 1 utility player to go with normal position players.

SS and 3B IMO.

2B is pretty deep IMO. You have Uggla, Utley, Roberts, Phillips, Pedroia and Kinsler in the top tier. Then plenty of potentially very good producers like Kendrick, A.Cabrera, Cano, and Weeks. And reliable players such as Hudson, Polanco, A.Hill and now Schumaker.

Hmmmmmmm...3b&#x27;stop tier: wright, longoria, arod, chipper, a.ramirez, atkinsgood, capable of a big year: kouzmanoff, gordon, mora, figgins, blake?, cantu?I buess there&#x27;s more depth than I thought. And add to the list Youkilis and Huff who should be 3b eligible in most leagues.Is there anyone else you like at 3b Arrows?

miggy is 3rd base eligible i beleive,,along with 1st base eligible...think 1st and 3rd are plenty deep.  not gonna waste and early round pick on either position.

1b is always deep, especially in AL only leagues where most DH's qualify as 1b's.

Miggy is only 1b in my leagues because he only had 14 games at 3b. I'm sure he qualifies at 3b in many leagues. That would definitely increase his value closer to a top 5 pick.

I predict that Alexi Ramirez will be an absolute stud this year and he will be eligible at both SS and 2B

1st base is by far the deepest..catcher is actually pretty shallow..after mccann, martin, mauer, and soto, it really drops off. 3rd base is pretty deep, as well as ss and of. talent at 2b is verry small, so i made an emphasis to get a top tier catcher (soto) and 2b (kinsler) early in the draft. get elite players from scarce positions in the top rounds, then go for the players from the deep positions later; thats my strategy

I am in a 12 team league, head to head and both leagues, starting pitching dominated our stats last year, it also has to do how your scoring is broken down, save guys also were good last year. I would have to agree with SS position, I had 5th pick, ended up getting Pujols who I thought would have been snagged already, all the top SS were taken so I filled other positions, I ended up getting Tejada who is that bad and in his last year of contract, he needs a big year if he wants another decent contract. Also I got Jose Lopez at 2nd base late in the draft he is good for decent to above average numbers, I am fine with those 2 picks, it enabled me to address other areas, my catcher was AJ P, who wasnt top teir but you know what you are going to get out of him. I was able to get Youk at 3b, Quenton OF, Bruce OF, and McClouth OF. I got Lincecum and Dice K, Lilly and Krod as my closer. I dont mean to drag this on, but I didnt get top tier SS, 2B or C and feel like my team is still strong, one of the elite of the league.

10 team roto league my first 3 picks went:

1. Rollins
2. Longoria
3. Brandon Phillips.

I got a Top 5 player at each of the 3 scarce positions and there is quite a dropoff after these top 5.

Next 6 picks I took:

4. Hamels
5. Granderson
6. Haren
7. Lidge
8. Mariano Rivera

I now have Top 7 SP's and 2 Top 5 RP's. I now have at least 1 Top 5 player at 5 out of the 8 positions.

For my other 2 outfield positions, while everyone was reaching for the Soriano's, Quentins, Guerrero's, Ordonez's and Markakis' in the first 50 picks I waited and got a guy who will put up similar numbers as those guys at pick 88 with Jay Bruce, I then picked up a very undervalued guy right now in Raul Ibanez at pick 113!!

For first base, while everyone was reaching for the Morneau, Berkman, Youkilis, gonzalez crew I waited until pick 93 and got just as good of a player this year IMO with Joey Votto.

For catcher I waited til pick 183 and pluked this year's Geovanny Soto (Pablo sandoval).

For the rest of my picks i selected a bunch of good young talents as well as some sleepers. managed to steal Jason Motte at pick 190, it's been a couple weeks since the draft and I don't think he'll go that late now but I have a feeling I am going to be laughing to the bank over that one.

Catchers don&#x27;t even really have a top, Russ Martin&#x27;s about it, especially now that Mauer&#x27;s status is up in the air. I would say SS is EXTREMELY "top heavy", in that Hanley Ramirez is a top 3 OVERALL pick, Reyes top 8, and Rollins top 12. After that, we&#x27;re lookin at Alexei Ramirez, Jeter, and Furcal...Jeter making a strong case for moving lower.

Depends on your league setup, if you have 16 teams and 5 OF's, IMO you probably want to make sure you have OF's taken care of, b/c thers a big difference between guys who are for sure TOP 3 OFs on their own team, and guys whose status is up in the air, or are for sure gonna be mediocre.
