When you have to pick up a pitcher off of the waiver wire, what do you usually go with?
Obviously the first answer is it depends on the other pitchers on the roster. I get that, but I am curious if there is general rule of thumb here that's recommended as the way to go.
I'm in a few 12-team 5x5 mixed leagues, and these are some of the top names left on the waiver wires: SPs Travis Wood, Alexi Ogando, Aaron Harang, Chris Young, Kyle McClellan, Jeremy Guthrie, Brian Duensing. RPs Chris Sale, Koji Uehara, Jon Rauch, Brian Fuentes, Sean Burnett, Jake McGee.
My closers are such that I typically find myself building teams with one top guy (Feliz) surrounded by volatile guys (Gregg, League, Contreras).
My inclination would be to pick up Travis Wood (fantasy columnists seem to always like him) or Alexi Ogando. I guess picking up Uehara would lock up the Orioles' saves.
Anyway, just curious if there is usually a best route to go when picking up a pitcher.
