I'll be cheering them on, but I don't see them winning. Lahm is great, but the back 4 as a unit isn't. Also, I can see Low getting his tactics/lineup all wrong at some point. At worst I have them KO'd in the Rd of 16 to Belgium.. at best KO'd in the Semis v Brazil.
What do you all think Low's starting 11 will look like?

I agree with you in regards to Germany not likely to win. I do think they have a really solid squad.
Ozil, Gomez
Rues, Schweinstagger, Gundogan, Muller in the midfield or as central defensemen
Lahm, Hummels, Boateng, Westerman
I feel like Im missing somebody. They go deeper too. I'm not as versed in their youth system but I imagine a youngster might break through. Just not sure.
For the record if they play Belgium, I will be at the sportsbook purchasing a ticket to back the Germans. C'mon man, its Belgium.

So many great attacking options to choose from.. Ozil, Reus, Muller, Schurrle, Gotze, Klose, Draxler etc. Ozil is a guarantee, but other then that I see Low leaving out 2 from my list for Gomez and Podolski. Reus is a beast.. he is crazy if he leaves him on the bench.
Holding mids will probably be Schweiny and Kroos. Khedira is just returning from injury and Gundogan has been ruled out I believe.
On D I see Lahm, Boateng, Hummels, with a big ? for LB. I'd take a chance on Schmelzer

Bizkilla.. I hear you on the potential Belgium match. I like Germanys chances against them, but I could see an upset too. Belgium has a lot of quality. It would be the most difficult Rd of 16 match IMO.

This is surely a top flight Belgium club. They are on the rise and should be in contention for the next Euro Cup. German football is arguably perhaps just below Spain right now and I just won't discount them.

Half a year ago I likely would have disagreed with you Kraut but now I have to say you are right - Germany won't take it.
The main problem we have is an overload of talented offensive midfielders but serious problems with regard to healthy quality strikers and wing defenders.
Defense could look like this:
Lahm-Mertesacker,Boateng, - and then what?
The leftback position is the most crucial problem we have. Schmelzer has played a disappointing season and even at its best is not a player meeting the highest international standards. I would prefer Durm over Schmelzer, he has claimed this spot with Dortmund and looked far better than Schmelzer, also he is faster. But of course he has barely any experience yet.
Third option is Jansen, technically a solid leftback but his team Hamburg is struggling badly this year and I wonder where he would get any self-esteem from. Only option to really solve the leftback problem would be to place Lahm there, but then we have the same problem on the right side.
Second key issue are the strikers. Klose is a legend but he has gotten old, I really hope he will play so he can crack Ronaldo's record but he is not the one to win us the title anymore. Gomez has been injured for most of the season and does not really fit Löw's style. Alternatives include Kruse, Lasogga, Kiessling. The first two played a good season, Kiessling always scores 15+ goals each season but had a dispute with Löw and so he surely won't be nominated. Best option in my view is to put Götze up front as false 9, or try Reus as a striker.
Overall, the team has some weak spots and even though the defense includes a lot of reputated players, they are never really able to hold a clean sheet. That is a key reason why they fail in the end.
Other arguments against Germany to win the title are:
- In World Cups played in South America, only Southamerican teams ever won it.
- The team mainly consists of Dortmund, Bayern & Arsenal players, all three clubs had a promising start to the season which in turn ended rather disappointing. Also Bayern and Dortmund play the cup final against each others which means that Löw can start to practice with the entire squad far later than most of the competitors.
- The atmosphere between the Dortmund and Bayern players is not too good. Löw often gets accused of "favorable treatment" of the Bayern players. I somewhat agree here, in my view Hummels has to play in place of Boateng but I can see Löw starting Boateng.

but what team DOESN'T have weak spots? Aside from Brazil, what team has more talent than Germany? I don't expect Spain to return to the level at which they won the last World Cup.. What other team has as much class top to bottom as Germany? With Khedira getting healthy the midfield is loaded.. Even with some of the concerns outlined in above posts, the fact remains Germany has world class talent at almost every position. Maybe 6-1 isn't great value but I don't know how we can bump them below teams like Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Argentina, England looking at aggregate talent.
