seems the movement is really gaining traction into the mainstream
i posted a link in GD to Food Matters' latest doc, Hungry for Change. They nail it, and say the truth that needs to be said, about how feeding children sugar should levy the same penalty in a society, as feeding a child cocaine or heroin
they claim that it was only a ten day 'free' trial, but my guess is you could still watch it somewhere, somehow. google - hungry+for+change

ad, i just finished watching it. they definitely made the point about sugar, and that was good, but i thought it was lacking in other areas. maybe that's how it has to be when you run a few stories in a 60 minute show (minus commercials) but to vilify sugar without discussing carbohydrates in general leaves out a big piece of the puzzle. and i thought they sent the wrong message about fat. somewhere in there was a comment that eating some type of sugar product ios just as bad as eating a cheeseburger. that sends the message that a cheeseburger is bad for you because of the fat.
so, they definitely sent a strong message about sugar which was good but they didn't go further to discuss carbohydrates, fats, protein, etc. everyone would improve their diets by eliminating sugar but you can still have a pretty shitty diet if you focus on other empty carbs and artificially lowfat products.

They should have also sent a clear message that refined carbs like bread, pasta, cereal etc are bad because they cause a similar insulin response as sugar. Also the fact that many low fat products contain more sugar than the original product.

yeah, to say stop eating sugar is good but to not tell people what to replace it with and continue to imply that all fats are bad doesn't do much to help people at the end of the day.

60 minutes should do a special on how awesome spinach is
Ban tony the tiger,,,
Reinstate pop-eye
The sickest part about the whole mess, is as the information brings the truth to light, especially on diet/nutrition/health, one must conclude that this epidemic is political. See Americans have the cheapest food in history, and cheapest food on the planet link
Which is precisely why health care costs have spiraled out of control/fallen into a death spiral. We subsidize the high hell out of people consuming the western diet. Top to bottom, it is the visible hand of government, making sure things are the way they are, today. Are so called cheap 'food' is the reason why we have such expensive health care,,,,,,,why is it so hard for people to connect the dots?

The government? You can spend as much as you want at the grocery store. It's a matter of ignorance, economics, and our society. No time to make a healthy lunch to bring to work (when you barely have time to eat at your desk?). Grab a Lean Cuisine and nuke it. No time to make dinner when you get home? Throw a pre-maid lasagna in the oven.
It's pretty simple at the grocery store. Stay on the outer areas and avoid the aisles. Fresh fruit, vegetables, and meats. Pretty simple.
And as for economics, I have a buddy who has no money. Do you think he's buying fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat? No, it's the cheap pastas and the like.

Pasta is cheap because it's flour, water, and a little egg. Rice is cheap because......it's rice. Fresh vegetables and meats are going to cost more than a box of pasta. It's just the way it is.
Why do you even live here? Every single problem is the government's fault according to you. I suppose it was there fault back in the day when you had to file bankruptcy.
We subsidize the high hell out of people consuming the western diet.
Why don't you enlighten me.

By the way, I've worked in a corporate environment for some time. You think these professional people with more to do in a day than there is time are eating healthy meals at their desk? No, they are eating lean cuisines....always loaded up with carbs. You think these people making 6 figures can't afford to buy healthy food because of the government? Dual income families with plenty of money are eating like crap and it's not because they can't afford to eat well. It's because the last thing mom and dad want to do when they get home from work is spend time in the kitchen. Anything to save some time.

This so ridiculous its the amount people consume. The portions in this country are out of control. Calories in vs calories out period! Fat fucks try portion control and drinking water instead of soda or juice!

actually, not period. Fat storage is regulated by hormones, so it's the quality of calories coming in that dictate how much fat people store

no need to be all smarmy about it Hutch
Do you honestly wish to 'be enlightened' or are you just looking to argue with someone?
TO be honest, i'm not sure what you want me to tell you, if you cannot see what is clear as day out in the open, what could i possibly say to change your closed ass mind?

while this is fundamentally correct it is an oversimplification. There are also some genetic factors that are out of ones control.

yeah, pulled i don't think this is the way to approach it. people will disagree about this but in here we'll tell you that the quality of the calories is much more important than the quantities. i could care less how many calories i eat because if i'm eating the right kind of calories, the quantity will take care of itself. as an example, i can eat a bag of baked potato chips without a problem. i can eat an entire pizza. but i can't eat that many nuts, i can't eat that many eggs, i can't eat that much meat. all those carbs are empty carbs and aren't doing much for you, andf they aren't filling you up like proteins and fats are.
