Is this the highest quality and best tasting meat at the deli counter? I have recently started buying a lot more deli meat and was curious if Boars Head was actually worth the extra cash??

I'm with stiln you cant beat a few slices of boars head meats and cheeses, its as close to perfection as you can get in a packaged food.

only thing I will buy.  so much better.  And yes it is more expensive but at the end of the day you pay about 2 - 3 dollars more for a pound.   Lets say you get 4 or 5 sandwiches out of that pound then it does not turn out to be that much more per sandwich.

Especially when you consider how much better it tastes.

I like Boars Head but not thrilled about $10 a pound for meat..... Can get decent steaks for 6 a pound or chicken for 1-2$ pound...... The BH corned beef is awesome but it's 12.99..... Deli meats are loaded with bad shit tho and generally try to avoid them but still buy them.

Mickleberry ham is good fir 5-6 a pound. Even hormel tastes good if slather it with mayo.

Also, lot of the nicer grocery stores roast their own meat in house which means less preservatives.

Best thing on a sandwich is the seasoned oil and vinegar.

If going for flavor, the Hormel "cooked" ham is good.... If going for nutrition, should prolly not get near the sliced deli meat counter.

The solution is to roast your own meat one a week. Pretty freaking easy. Just chunk a roast in the oven.

I used to eat a lot of deli meat because it's low fat.  Unfortunately, it's chock full of sodium.

Instead, I roast turkey breasts, chicken breasts...bone in and skin on (roast them skin on and remove the skin and remove the meat from the bone). Sometimes I roast a whole chicken.  All of these are much cheaper options.  I just cut up the meat and put it in a tupperware container for the week.  You can use it for just about anything...sandwiches....add to a soup....salads.  Sometimes I'll make mashed potatoes and roast some vegetables and throw everything in a bowl.  You don't even need gravy.  And pretty darn good for you if you don't hammer away at the butter for the mashed taters.

I almost never eat deli meat any longer.

I would say boar's head is worth the price, though, if you are buying deli meat.

With Hutch on the split breasts with bone in..... Tastes better and can usually catch them fir a dollar a pound.

As long as slice it well, blows away boars head.

I'll sometimes just boil them... Can get a softer texture.... Gonna smear it with mayo or something anyway.

Hutch and FS, thanks for the input....I just typically buy deli meat because its relatively cheap and very quick and easy. I usually make a sandwich with some Pringles and a pickle and call it lunch or dinner. I am a senior in college (super senior actually) so my schedule is definitely not like a normal functioning adults so I literally "cook" a couple times a month. Not to mention I am terrible at it.
