It sounds like this worked great for you, but for most people oatmeal and protein before bed wouldn't be the best choice. Oatmeal and whey protein do raise insulin levels (ok in the morning, great after workout, but not so great before bed). A better choice is cottage cheese and casein protein before bed. Both are carbs and protein, but casein proteins are digested slower.

good stuff ! Although I'd swap the oatmeal before bed to say a protein shake or some low fat cottage cheese mixed with protein powder.
