Yes on Saco River near Fiddlehead Campground these ferns can be found, The Bright Green ferns are round when they spring up and in the shape of the end of a violin encased in a copper colored shell.
they grow up in about a week warm weather and rains promotes growth and once unfurled they get stringy and hard much like asparagus. a week or two they will all go by a true sign for spring fiddleheads cannot with stand the slightest frost and once they pop up it is safe to plant tomatoes and other more fragile garden vegtables.
these ferns also known as the ostrich fern can be found in higher end boston market shops with a price near 10.00 a pound but in maine they are usually free for the taking with land owner permission.
