Well, "Forks Over Knives", has been the #1 documentary movie for over a year now.   Basically, it encourages a vegan lifestyle to prevent the onset of chronic diseases. (heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc.) Conveys a mountain of evidence to support this way of life, with T. Collin Campbell, author of the best selling book, The China Study, and Caldwell Esselstyn is world renowned for proving that plaque build up on the arterial walls is reverseable via a vegan diet. Makes a very compelling case for making yourself bulletproof to western disease.

but there's allot of bad science and un-adjusted data just like any propaganda book or film right? the example of the rats that developed brain tumors they didn't tell you that the mice w/o tumors died and the amounts of protein the tumor rats were given were about 20 times what any human eats, also the idea that eating to much protein is the cause of bone deterioration  isn't backed by anything, the example of how protein in the body is broken down was also incorrect

You asked, "any truth to this stuff", so I answered.  Here's another link, and within this youtube video, you'll find a link to Sanjay Gupta's CNN special, "The Last Heart Attack".    (Also, I'm not politically minded, but I'd consider myself a Republican.  Just in case you'd cast me off as a left winger nut.)  I've been doing this for 3 months, dropped 34 pounds, among many other health benefits.  It's rough, I'd say I'm 95% vegan, make mistakes, but I'm now sub 300+ pounds.

I have watched this movie, Food Inc, Food Matters, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead, and have read Omnivore's Dilemma and the book that Essylstein wrote(can't remember the name even though it's in my closet right now).

While I understand what Forks Over Knives is trying to say I don't necessarily believe in it 100%.

I believe that man is meant to eat meat. I just don't believe he is meant to eat the processed shit that we are currently served in our grocery stores or restaurants on a daily basis.

I think that if western culture were to just revert back to the diet we were intended to eat and cultivate food the way it was meant to be grown, then we would see a reversal in trends in diseases like obesity, heart disease, diabetes, etc.

The meat that we consume isn't being raised as nature intended it to because of what it is fed or how it is grown. Disease is becoming rampant in animals because of this. Our plants aren't the same as they were 100 years ago because of this as well.

We can pretty much expect the same thing to happen to us if we are consuming this stuff. Disease, both of the body and mind, should be expected if we are altering our diets away from what nature intended it to be.

The best way to go about reversing this trend is to buy from your local farmers markets or to start gardening yourself. Ideally, most of what you buy should be locally grown or raised(within a 4 hour drive according to Food Inc).

Yes it is going to be more expensive to buy free range chicken and eggs and grass fed beef. As well as organic fruits and vegetables. But this change in diet could also save money long term down the road in way of less doctors visits and prescription medicine costs. I guess you pay for it one way or another.

We should all make this effort not only to help ourselves in terms of our diets. But also to send a message to big business agriculture and meat production that we no longer want a single entity to have complete control over our food source.

You no longer make votes on ballots in America anymore, you make them with your dollar.

Now I only wish that I could follow my own advice 100% of the time instead of 50% of the time.

Keep educating yourself on these matters and inform others of these ideas as well. No one is saying force this upon other people, but just let others become aware of what is out there and the choices they have.

What about Esselstyns' collegue?  The guy had a heart attack, and during surgery, they discovered that some blockages were too far down the vein for stents.  (at that point, you're living on borrowed time.)  He takes up Esselstyns' diet, and 6 months later, the follow up angiogram shows that the arteries are free flowing!  This is just one instance of the reversal.  I'm following many individuals on twitter with testimonials.
