....I have been having a really hard time waking up lately. By waking up, I mean getting my wits about me and having some sort of clue of what I am doing when I do wake up. I kinda walk around in a haze for a good hour or so when I do wake up.
I get adequate sleep, 7-8 hours a night, most of the time and have no problem sleeping at night.
I would like to avoid using caffiene or any type of energy drink if possible. I have used them in the past however.
Any advice would be helpful. I appreciate it.

It's all about routine. As soon as your alarm goes off, get ff your ass and in the shower. Don't give yourself a chance for that fuzz to set in.
A good idea is to have your alarm clock away from away from your bed , or close to the bathroom, or located in a place where you have to get up and on your feet.Once you're on your feet then your day should start.

I used to surf everyday. This is a better variation of a cold shower but the same idea. Calling the surf report you have to be somewhat cognicent in the AM and conditions change everyday, so its always fun.
The anticipation of doing something you like during the week combined with a recreational aspect. Just going to the gym usually wont cut it. Perhaps its riding mountain bikes on trails or focusing on an upcoming 5k to start training for shits and giggles.
Most "easy methods" of being cheerful or overly motivated in the AM are all synthetic or some form of drug ie, red bull, cofeee, 5 hr energy, Monster, and tea -- for ME anyway.
Activities that you look forward to and anticipate would be the best.
Sometimes Im dragging ass in the AM and lately its been the petro, gasolina, aka Starbucks doing the trick.
Im planning on going on a surf trip in a few months but that does nothing to cure waking thats ass up! lol
Going to the gym and being so busy / tired I only go sparingly now. I have a hell of a time waking up nowadays Ktrain. As you know Coffee tastes like shit but works. It also makes your breath smell and makes ya wired up but it seems to be an ends to a means in the Manana

as mentioned.....I ASSume you are are not taking anything to help you sleep....or drinking right before bedtime
Do you have allergies?.....in this case... fine when you go to bed ....or during the day when not home .....but bad in morning when you wake up?....< meaning you are allergic to something in your bedroom .....(pets....dust on books...dust mites...mold ++)
try sleeping less.....or more......7-8 hours not ideal for everyone
try eating and /or exercising immediately when you wake up......could be too much time is passing between meals .....(problem many have)......especially if you're smart and eat early at night
if you have always done same exact routine....and felt fine....could be something is wrong.....have a thorough physical/blood screening.....if it's been awhile
The impediment to action advances action - what stands in the way becomes the way.

I appreciate the advice guy, thanks. I am trying to ease up on the energy drinks. I also am trying to sleep only 7 hours per night now. I think 8 or 9 just makes the problem worse. I don't smoke weed all that much(maybe twice a year) so I know that isn't the problem. And I am not on any meds.
I have actually found that reading really helps as well. I have also downloaded some relaxing nature sounds for my ipod that i put on when I jump in bed.
