I've just decided to book a personal trainer to help me lose weight. I can do 15-20lbs without help but then I decide to drop off the training/workouts and put it all back on. Hoping having to pay for the help will mean I can do that last 15lbs and make it up to a total loss of 30lbs.
Currently at 210lbs so my goal is 180, be more than happy to get to 185 but once I'm at 185 the last 5 will be easy.
Anyone else user personal trainers and do they help?

Personal trainers are good for showing you the ropes, and getting you started on a solid routine and making sure you have proper form etc... but the rest falls on YOU. Having a personal trainer should be a one or two week thing, and after that if you don't have the self discipline and motivation to keep at it... you will have a hard time keeping the weight off regardless and be down some decently big bucks.
Good luck... you can do it.

exactly. a GOOD trainer will show you proper form preventing injury as well as push you to the limits in your workouts. Use his/her advice and routine to create your own after you are down with them. remember that exercises you hate doing are the ones you are weak with and thus you should work on them even more. Lastly, make sure your diet is on par with your workout.
best of luck

yeah i agree with everything said here, for me if you are not ready to change your diet then don't think you will be able to stay down at the weight that you want, there is never a real honest easy way out. Diet and the workouts go hand in hand with each other like no other.

first week gone, down to 204 from 210. Personal trainer gave me all these tips on how to workout properly and also best plans for meals etc. Hitting the cardio hard to start with lots of running and bike work, hopefully drop another 2/3 lbs over the next 7/10 days and then tone it up a bit. All about general fitness and it should become easier as it goes. Not had a beer this week which helped but if it means I'll get there quicker, I can give it up for a couple of months

keep it up man. I lost about 80 pounds total, then put back on about 20, so am at 190 now. In the process of getting back down to 180 though. Its well worth the effort, as im sure you know

Only reason you should ever need a personal trainer is if you have ZERO knowledge about dieting or fitness. Be smart and educate yourself first about your body and how it works. Then if you still feel you're not ready and don't feel comfortable, go spend money on a trainer. In my opinion (coming from someone that has been a gym rat for years), a trainer is an absolute waste of money and time. I actually feel sry for people that need them because often information is inaccurate. Some are great and some are horrid. Either way, I would never take a chance and it is quite funny listening to them talk to the clients about shit they have no idea about. Or the best is when I recently signed up at a gym (had to switch locations) and the this little dweedle tells me I have to take a training course by him! Kid is like 155 and soft soaking wet. Couldn't wait to have him come into the gym and me show him a thing or two! Fucking kid looks in awe when he is supposed to tell you what to do and your ripped throwing up three times the amout he could.
To be honest it is all knowledge and understanding your own body bro. I know what works precisly for me and allows me to stay clean and ripped without looking to big or soft. The pic of me in my avatar is prolly as soft as I have been in years since that pic is from when I joined here a while back. Remember, diet is 80%. Anyone that tells you different including your little trainer, doesn't know shit. If you find the person that does tell you this, listen carfully! Then welcome to the big leagues!! A proper diet alone can make you look like you're on roids.
Top five keys to working out. Google them if you need more info I don't have time for writeups.
1. 6-8 meals a day. Not full meals! Good solid broken up meals. A shake can count as one. Helps metabolism and never eat if you feel full!
2. Ingest min. your bodyweight (lbs) of grams of protein. Eating protein is best but shakes can be fine. Protein kills fat as well as helps muscles.
3. Do FASTED cardio! Fasted cardio is in the morning before you have eaten. Can't even compare to other Cardio.
4. FATS BURN FATS! Eat almonds, flax seeds, salmon, etc. Good fat is need and burns bad fat.
5. Rotate your Cardio!!! if doing 1 hour then do 30 minutes run/ 20 minutes bike/ 10 mins elip. Or 30 minutes box/30 minutes swim. If you body gets too used to doing one thing you burn less.
6. HAVE A FUCKING CHEAT DAY! You prolly don't classify under this category, but for us hard guys, our diets are very strict and you need to have a cheat day so your body reacts still when being fed good shit!
Good luck bro!
Any questions shoot away! I promise you I look twice as good as your trainer. Not being egotistical just stating the truth and willing to help.

personal trainers are like kindergarten teachers...they serve a purpose for a few months, but become disposable very quickly once you grow up and know what you're doing in the gym.
lol exactly. Could be more like daycare trainers telling fitness stupid and uneducated people anything cause they listen like sheep.

Oh shitty!! I forgot on more you could and should call 7!
Never eat after 7pm if you are going to bed for 10pm but you MUST eat the right food just before bed. Always pound a cottage cheese or casein protein before bed. They are slow digesting and keep that tummy working all nightbro!

as someone who has worked out for years and worked in a gym for 10 years i would say this completely objectively...i would never personally pay for a trainer.
but i am self motivated. some people need the push of a trainer. however, personal trainers are so expensive that after a while you will either pay shit ton of money or stop and revert back to unmotivated ways if thats your personality.
i see so many people train with a trainer and look great and then stop and go back to shit...they stop because of the cost mainly.
most trainers love their job and want to help you genuinely. then like in any profession there are those that just see a dollar sign. then there are some that are just going through the motions and really telling you to do things that you can do on your own for a lot less money.
my advice..most gyms offer at least a free hour of training when you join. use that, at our gym they will go through a lot with you like your goals and show you exercises on how to achieve the goals. focus this orientation more on your goals rather than how to use the equipment. if you need extra consultation, do it a few more times to get a routine down and then do it on your own. you will save a ton of money and not be on a time schedule with them.
