So, I was invited to play some (two hand touch) rugby last week. It was great! Never played before this. This afternoon was my second outing. Maybe I didn't warm up sufficiently, after about 45 minutes or so, I felt what *I thought* was someone either kicking my calf or maybe hit hard with a small foreign object. But, there was nobody in the vicinity, and I all of a sudden couldn't run without pain.
What did I do? I'll admit I haven't played too many team sports in the last several years, but I HAVE been working out. Never had an injury in my life other than some back sprains. I've also got to drive and WALK to work, and I'm not looking forward to my walk tomorrow after sitting in the car and getting that calf all tightened up. blah

If I twist my leg in a certain manner when I'm laying in bed, my entire calf feels like it's just going to burst in two. I don't know why it does that, but it's the most excruciating pain I've ever felt in my life (and I've fucked up both my ankle and shoulder before - that was nothing compared to this).

probably tore your achilles tendon . very painful and swelling will accompany it . use ice and ibupropen . then go see an orthopedist . good luck . could also be peroneous longus tendon .

Could just be muscle spasms? Try to move your foot up/down when it happens. That will loosen out any spasms. Could be something much more serious if that ^^ doesn't work.

LOL at all the replies! It took over a month, but I guess the calf's back to normal. Still swollen, though. No pain. Unless it's just muscle overcompensating. Funny, I was able to do some lifting, but running at even 50% was ultra painful. Seems back to normal, though. Probably a slight tear, without all the bruising that goes along with it.
