With blood pressure is 124/72 ldl is 215 hdl 49 the cardiologist say I should be on a statin, my feeling is the guy is jumping the gun and side affects of the drug are some thing to consider ....age is 62...any thoughts ? Thanx

Try out a Mediterranean Diet for a month or so. Internet search it if you are unsure of what it is. It's not a weight-loss "diet," but how the people from the Mediterranean eat.

That diet is a blood pressure and cholesterol smasher. Better than statins in all but extreme cases.

Your local doctor is better qualified to treat any health condition than strangers on a gambling forum.  Drugs may be effective if diet, exercise and lifestyle aren&#x27;t enough to treat high blood pressure.

My brother (10 years younger than I) had to have an emergency triple bypass. I was given a clean bill of health by my doctor. I seldom exercise, so I give full credit for my healthy heart and blood panels to copious consumption of green tea and white tea (which is ever better) for decades.

I would suggest getting a second opinion and begin exercising and drinking a lot of green and/or white tea first and getting another checkup in a few months before starting on statins.

Green tea is a gift from Mother Nature.  It is a great elixir for the human body.The Japanese people are living proof of this.  They are the longest living people in the world and have the most people on the planet 100 years-old or older.  Green tea is a staple of their diet.

I would not go on a statin if my life depended on it.

An RX solution should be your LAST choice, find ways through diet/exercise and natural ways to help with the cause of the issue..not focus only on the condition itself.

Good news is that your blood pressure is normal. Also your good cholesterol HDL is healthy. However LDL is high and probably why statin is prescribed to lower bad cholesterol.

Even if you're healthy, statins may be prescribed for people at risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Risk factors include old age, diabetes, smoking, stress, obesity, family history and recent stroke or heart attack.

Lifestyle is still key in preventing cardiovascular disease. Diet can lower LDL 10%+. Weight loss lower LDL 15%. But if lifestyle isn't enough, statins can help lower LDL 50%. Statins are relatively safe and commonly prescribed.

Actually doctors now a days are nothing more than drug pushers..Buy a book written by Haylie Pomroy and understand what she says and do it. In 6 months you&#x27;ll probably be off all your medication.GL ????

Well all I can say is thank you to all ! New blood work was very good hdl 187 ll 47Basically all I did was. Eliminate the 4 or 5 breakfast sandwichs I ate each week substitute with steel cut oat meal and banana and walnuts or almond, chicken breast and fresh steamed veggies and fresh salids with apple cider vinegar ..2 table spoons or low fat vin&amp; ex olive.Also walked at the local natural lands site 5 miles 4x a week.. Now I jog almost 3 miles of the journey....And yes I do treat my self to 2 slices of pizza a Week same with a butcher cut 12 to 14 ounce ribeye every 2 weeks again thanx to all, My family Dr was openly happy with the numbers but the heart specialist was kind of smug and indifferent ..he said he will see me in 6 months with new blood work....Whata @sshole .
