Good thread and good question.
Suppose I would answer that there's just no way I could give back all of the hard work without tossing in the towel on life. Pretty much one of the few things left I personally derive pleasure from at my age.
Try not to ask yourself the question too often and just train. Each month of no misses and hard work take 4 days off as a reward. Pro card holders will tell ya that.

Actually a great question.
I go in spurts/phases with varying intensity but still have a basic routine/habit in there. At least if it is teeny, a basic routine which is like automatic and brushing teeth.

No bodybuilder over here but would listen to your body and don't understimate rest and nutrition.
Personally, I have overtrained in the past and hit plateaus easily.
Now can go six months without even looking at a gym but do other things like pushups/pullups/floor work.
Those Concept2 rowing machines are badass by the way. Totally badass.

* The "Runtastic" app is a huge motivator. I was tippin' 300lbs, then I started walking a mile, then walk/jog 5K's with that app every day.
* Another awakening was the movie "Forks Over Knives". Still the #1 documentary on Amazon for almost 2 years now,....enough said.

As a kid my oldest brother was always bigger, faster, stronger, had multiple chicks and cars and was 10x more bada$$ than any Fonzie could ever be... and he busted my behind about everything to fire me up.
As an adult I joined the Army and one day I needed something to get me through morning PT because I was getting smoked by the drill instructors... I though of him and it put me way over the top with energy and no pain. I entered a zone.
I never realized how much I had looked up to him... but in that moment I realized that all that he put me through worked... I just had to think it and I could do it.
I don't think he knows how much he helped me in life by always trying to get me to be better... the best in everything I tried.
To this day I admire him for how great a big brother he is to me.
I can enter that zone anytime I want to by just letting it happen.. and he helped show me how without my even knowing that he did it back then.
Some big brothers can be awesome.
